Yes, Stellarium is good. I particularly like its ocular plugin.

Another free app is Cartes du Ciel. That's more serious and not as beautiful to look at, but with its finder circle option you can plot some nice star hopping trails and print them. It also has more info on the objects.

Yes basically to see whats where and to learn more on whats out there. Thank you ill have a look at that.

Although I've got a proper phone (android) :D, I basically spent (and occasionally still do) hour just flicking through the app store.

+1 for stellarium or google skymap, an adjustable red screen, a co-ordinates app,.

half the fun is just playing around in app store :D

Thanks guys for info. Downloaded Star Walk and having a wee flick through that. Seen Sky Safari 4 on there with the Pro version costing £28 i think ill stick to the lesser version for now till i find my feet.

I have Starmap Pro on my old iPhone 3, works great but it is quite expensive, 14€ if I remember correctly, but it's does not have annoying adverts. I never had any regrets about the price but still, it's expensive ;)

Of course I use Stellarium on the desktop. It's free and a super piece of software... didn't know there was an app for it :/

Been using the programs suggested and gotta say both Stellarium and Sky Safari (Sky Portal) are awsome programs both for iOS and Windows. I also think Star Walk is pretty cool to on the Ipad. Thanks guys for all your help.
