Hello guys! i'm new here, and i have a question!

Why am i seeing Pollux as the brightest star?

It is MUCH brighter than Sirius!

Sorry if this isn't the case, but are you sure you're not looking at Jupiter? Its very close to Pollux and indeed brighter than Sirius.

Sirius is much lower in the sky than Pollux (and Jupiter). It won't come up until about half 10 tonight and reaches it's highest at nearly 3 in the morning, even then it's only about 20^o above the horizon.

Procyon is South and West of Pollux and Sirius is about the same distance South again and further west, if that helps.

Also if it has moons then it is definitely Jupiter!

Hi all, the above posts have got this sorted, but Gemini's two brightest stars, Castor & Pollux are an interesting case where Pollux (beta) is brighter than Castor (alpha). If you look carefully, naked eye, that's quite easy to spot.

Thank you all, it didn't twinkle, and was really bright, so it must have been Jupiter.

I didn't even know it can be seen with a naked eye!

Jupiter is close to Castor and Pollox (Gemini) right now but by far...............the brighest of them all is Jupiter.
