Andromeda - well a start anyway

Ramsay

Recommended Posts

My first attempt at Andromeda from an Edinburgh back garden, there was more light pollution than I thought plus my camera battery went flat after 11 shots instead of the 20 I was aiming for. Stacked in DSS and processed in Photoshop following the guidance in "Making Every Photon Count" by Steve Richards.

What camera did you use and what settings; sub length, iso, f/, focal length of the lens?

James

Being a beginner here I'm not sure where all the information I posted along with the image has gone but here it is again:-

Canon EOS 5DIII with a 70-200mm 1:2.8 L IS II USM lens mounted on an Astrotrac

11 x 30 sec exposures @ ISO 1600 (it was supposed to be 20 but my battery went flat!)

10 x Darks

20 x Bias frames

Combined in DSS and processed in Photoshop using advice from "Making Every Photon Count" by Steve Richards

Great picture thanks, and food for thought.

Yes, I will be trying longer subs and more of them soon, the light pollution was quite bad last night and I'm surprised the picture came out as well as it did, at the time I didn't think longer subs would work well. I will be taking longer subs soon from a dark site which should help and with a scope.

So much to learn so little time.
