Finder scope , Two on One

Recommended Posts

Hi , I have the Orion SkyQuest XT8 Classic , and I have 9x50 Right-Angle Correct-Image Finder and EZ Finder II Telescope Reflex Sight

I was first using the Red dot finder , but the red dot is a bit large so I can't really aim very well , and its just pain for the neck to use it.

then I changed it to the 9x50 Right-Angle finder, the only problem is to find the object, its not easy to aim when you can't get that object in the finder in the first place.

so I thought if I can use both at the same time

the Red dot for the general place , and then the 9x50 Right-Angle for the accurate aim and tracking.

is it possible to do it?

thanks.

Hi, yes, it issible to do it this way, and many on this forum use a combination of both, though I don't do this myself, as I find the RACI finder quite sufficient for my own purposes. But it's all down to what you find best for yourself.

Assuming from your comments that you have two finders with a dovetail and just one base, then buy another base e.h. http://www.firstlightoptics.com/finders/finder-mounting-shoe.html and drill a couple of holes for it.

alternatively buy a different red dot finder like a Riger or Telrad and use the supplied sticky pads to fit.

I certainly use both as you described and it's 'heaven'.

Had same finder scope and same red dot. Little bit of velcro on bottom of red dot and a little on top of finder, then one of my wifes hairbands around both for added security. Works great, but sorry no pics.

I made use of the following two items on my Mak 127 in order to get a red dot mount to use with my RACI.

I did experiment carefully with various positions before committing to actually sticking it in place!!

I like the red dot and correct image finder scope approach - it matches up with my star atlasses - for the life of me I just couldn't get my mind around "flipping" star configuarations in my head. - I also use a 90 degree amici prism for low magnification widefield observations!!!:-

I find that it compares very favourably with my mid range mirror diagonals and is very handy for lunar.
