Planets do not require a DSLR. Webcams or specialist planetary cameras work best. For planets a large aperture Newtonian is probably the cheapest option, and you will want something on an EQ mount with a motor to track 9or a tracking alt-az mount, but they are more expensive, as a rule). The 5" Maksutovs by Skywatcher and several others are also a good choice

Yes, there's no reason you shouldn't do some planetary imaging with a refractor, but a Mak or SCT will probably be far easier to work with and give you a fair amount of aperture that should fit within your budget.

As Michael says, for planetary imaging you really want a fast frame rate camera. For a long time the SPC900 webcam has been the one to beat at the budget end of the market, but they're only available second hand now. They come up on ebay and Astro Buy & Sell for around the £50 to £60 mark. Cheaper than that are the Xbox Live cam and some of the Lifecams which require various degrees of modification to be usable.

Personally I'd get a telescope and get some use out of it whilst waiting for any appropriate bits for imaging to come up second hand. If you had, for example, the 127 Mak, there's no reason you couldn't use your camera to do some lunar (and solar, with an appropriate filter) imaging whilst getting the kit for planetary imaging together. All of my solar and lunar images here were taken with that telescope and a 450D, and the planetary ones with the same scope and mainly an SPC900 webcam.
