Thank you all for such a warm welcome. To answer the questions I saw...

Rich, ask away. I'm sure I'll be able to help with most things to do with visiting Guernsey.

Bernard, I'm using a Skywatcher 127 Mak on the Alt-Az mount. The photo was my attempt at stacking a number of still frames from a video taken on my Canon EOS 5D Mk ii. Not ideal, but I'm determined to get something good from it. I can see some breaks in the cloud this evening so I'll be trying to get outside soon.

Sim, the skies in Sark are great across the whole tiny island due to very little light pollution. It is very similar to our South coast on Guernsey too. On clear nights the Milky Way is clearly visible which happens to be another photo challenge I have set for myself.

Having very little Southern sky from where I am, I'll admit to being more than a bit envious!
