Went out onto a dark country lane down here above and away from Newquay then just parked up, jumped over a style and sat in a field for an hour with the bins . the skies in this part of the world are complete stunning. And even with that a low cloud on the horizon still stopped my attempts at pan starrs .One more chance tonight. Fingers crossed.

Checking my numbers I've gone two days out somewhere so will have to check back a few weeks to make sure we tally again. Not sure what it was like in S Wales but these last few nights in Cardigan have been stunning - deck chair, bins and a flask of coffee - now a few more nights at home - not as dark but can now get the scope out. I'm tempted to get a small dob just to leave down West now just to use on nights like the last weekend - glad of any suggestions.

It was nice last night. Just a bit cold.

I'd go a 130p heritage or smaller a 80mm on a az3 or 4

Gaz is the 130p the same one as Gordon used to bring to the meets and set up on a table top? That might just fit the bill though I didn't get a chance to look through it so not really sure what to expect?

it is indeed the same as gordon has steve but it does need a table and a sturdy one at that.

only thing i dont like about it is the focuser, it has a helical (sorry i cant spell it) which you turn to focus and cant really do heavy eyepeices iv looked through his and its a nice scope, i wouldnt compare it to the megrez but i know which i would rather. it would need modding (camping mat and the usual dob) somthing like a ST80 is very small very widefield and a AZ3 mount can fold down nicely......... the amount of kit i need for that dob i brought compared to the az3 and megrez could easly fit in one of the cubby holes in your caravan steve. you could also use it as a portable white light solar scope too........... :p

Amazing really - end of March gave us the longest period of consecutive non observing at 9 nights and now we're heading straight towards the longest period of consecutive observing chances - only in Wales :0) just got the bins out last night and walked into the farmers field opposite my house away from the street lamps to see the comet again - wish I could carry the scope there would solve most of my home observing issues - just got to watch out for the cow pats in the dark.

Clouds to start but they've cleared away although it is breezy and the odd gust of wind is bone chilling. Seem to be doing most observing with bins at the moment though got to sort out a mid weeker away from home shortly before the scope is mothballed for the season.

Snow again - who'd have thought it. Spent another half an hour over the farmers field opposite - quite beautiful again other than the occasional blast of wind. I think though we're coming to the end of the current clear period - but its been pretty decent. Off to London tomorrow so for the next few nights the chance to observe will be in the South East which is a shame cos I think for once the West has the best observing forecast again - be interesting to see how the light pollution compares at least.

Bit of artistic liscence taken over the last few days as I was in London - but the skies were clear there although you wouldn't want to get your scope out in the centre of the City for sure. Back to S Wales and the end of the current run of clear nights and biting cold look like their at an end for the time being.

Possibility to catch the occasional 10 to 15minutes last night but would have been a pretty frustrating experience- more of the same tonight by the look of things.

Managed to get out in the garden last night for a few hours - seeing was not brilliant but a pleasure to get out and see Saturn rising in the South, The upside down bucket with a board on was a huge success- can move the scope around different areas of the garden easily and the elevation helps enormously - so pleased will probably make it to a group meet now - I'll post a piccie later on. Not looking promising for tonight folks even though we didn't manage to get away will need a big change to the current horrible weather out the front of my garden..

To date a third of all nights have been observable- thats winter done- Spring probably milder and damper may see the numbers reduce to where our team of experts above have predicted. 75% of all group meets cancelled but Fridays looking good at least.
