Making the Best Observing List

I think one issue is that this has been done to some extent already. with the Messier list, best of the NGC list, Herschel lists, lunar 100 list, many double star lists etc. you could literally just list any 300 off those?

Another thing to consider too is the equipment people are likely to be using,some objects are better in binoculars and some need 12"+ in aperture to apreciate them fully but i would probably pick M31 and its satelite Galaxies ..... stunning.

the point is is that even people with binos will be able to see an object the same as someone with a 12 inch but not in as much detail. The idea of this is to give everyone an idea of the best objects

A bit too far south for U.K. observers but the Omega Globular (NGC 5139) in Centaurus but since the list is going to observers around the globe... A naked eye object, fine in bins and superb in any size scope.

If the list is going to be used for the coming winter months how about Comet Panstarrs due circa March 2013 that would be a great one for anyones list
