I use this Sky & Telescope applet:

It gives the timing of the GRS crossing the central meridian of the planet.

My iPhone App Jupiter Guide reckons that tonight at midnight I should be able to see the GRS. Is that correct because the applet you mention doesn't seem to match it.....?

Will the GRS be visible tonight at midnight?

That doesn't sound right. My app shows it transiting the meridian at 17.41 or there abouts.

Check the setting in your app for the location of the GRS, you should be able to set its longitude and the latest figure is 184° according to S & T. If yours is set incorrectly then it will show the transit times incorrectly too. My understanding is that GRS moves around 8° per year. I've just updated mine and it was set at 168° two years ago so that seems correct

I've used that SKy & Telescops applet for a couple of years and it's been pretty accurate up to now. I know the guy that wrote it and have 100% confidence in him

There is a little program called Jupiter 2 that I use

I use winjupos - Select a planet, Tools, ephemaris, graphics, real time. Then you can scrool it through the evening to come etc.

Beaten to it!! I use Jupiter2 and WinJupos as well (WinJupos is a cracking little program - lots of useful functionality!).
