Ring Nebula

Been trying to find this bad boy for ages. Got him tonight! 25mm eyepiece in my SW130 and I could also just make out the darker centre area. Clearest night here for months. Started (as always) with Andromeda and finished with The Coathanger for good measure! Hadn't seen that before either. Great night!

Well done on the ring nebula. It's one of my favourites. M57 takes magnifcation well so if you have a 10mm EP or barlow it could be worth grabbing a view next time

Brilliant and lovely to see. The Ring nebula is on of the easiest to find, just look between the stars Sulafat and Sheliak. These are the 2 base stars of Lyra. If you try a UHC filter, it'll stand out fine.

M57 is one of my favorite objects, so far at least. Its always satisfying when you find something for the first time, im always punching the air in my garden when i find something and goosebumps. I just hope no one is looking

Well done on the ring nebula it's a fine target and never disappoints.

Although not my first DSO observed its the first one I recorded when I started my observing log many moons ago.

Thank you all. It's always good finding something for the first time, especially after several unsuccessful attempts. I start every session with Andromeda since I found that a couple of months ago.

The Coathanger was a total accident...I was just bino-scanning the Milky Way and it popped right out!

Any ideas on what to look for next?

definately towards the top of my list and looks like a smoke ring from my light polluted back garden.as stated above,it takes high magnification very well

Not far from the coathanger, is another fine planetary M27 the Dumbbell Nebula - you'll like that too!

If you like the Coathanger, have a crack at the Rocking Horse Cluster (NGC 6910) in Cygnus. It's right next to Sadr and is easy to find

If your up near the ring nebula why not try for M56 & M27 they're both close. M56 is pretty faint but M27 is big, bright and stands out well in any sky.

done the same with the same scope...its funny you try and try for ages then when you finally spot it you wonder how you could have missed it hehe...

Also look at Albeiro the star at the bottom of Cygnus..Its a lovely double with great colour...
