new eyepieces help

Recommended Posts

Hi all i need help ive read The Warthogs topic which was great, ive got the skywatcher 150p eq3-2 which is f/5 scope. The Warthog recommends 8mm 18mm and 25mm eyepieces for the scope.

Q1 The scope came with two eyepices 10mm and 25mm should i replace them.

Q2 Ive seen skywatcher ultra wide eyepieces of 6mm 8mm 15mm and 20mm should i buy them, to go with the two the scope came with.

Ive got £150 to spend could you please tell me my best options please thankyou.

Another option, since you’ve mentioned wide view, or you’re not keen on a Barlow is to keep the 10mm (it’s not useless, just pretty poor) and have a look at a 32mm PanaView: http://http://www.firstlightoptics.com/skywatcher-eyepieces/skywatcher-panaview-2-eyepieces.html

Then go for an 8mm BST and a 15mm of Vixen NPL: http://www.firstlightoptics.com/vixen-eyepieces/vixen-npl-eyepieces.html

You’ll then have 8, 10, 15, 25 and 32mm (wide) for £6 over your budget.

I've still got my 10mm and do use it occasionally, but my 8mm BST is my high power EP of choice.

Thankyou looks like best is 8mm bst 18mm bst a good 25mm vixen npl could you recommend a good barlow go with these i think then ill have a fairly good set.

The TAL barlow is very popular, if you can find one, but if you're getting a barlow, I wouldn't get an 8mm and a 18mm BST; that would make the 18mm a 9mm when barlowed. I'd still go for 12 and 18 and a barlow...

I can't recommend any particular make of EP, but can say a good quality EP around the 30mm mark with a 65-85' degree FOV will be really handy, finding dim and distance DSO's isn't to easy and the better the quality the better your chances... once found and centered a lower quality EP will help show some detail....

Well thankyou very much for your input.

You're welcome :)

Another option, but this may blow the budget, depending on which you choose, would be a zoom EP. I'm quite happy with my Seben Zoom (£51 from here http://www.ebay.co.u...=item588c1e6627 ), but I also expected and understood it's shortcomings, such as poor quality around the edges and poor FOV at the lower mags, but it's a very functional EP in my opinion

A good quality zoom such as a Baader Clickstop http://www.firstligh...m-eyepiece.html would set you back £180 - £190

They will give you 8 - 24mm in one fell swoop.

That sounds good because ive tried loads of time find the leo trio and cant find it maybe it is the 25mm that came with scope stopping me.

I have the same scope. First thing I did was replace the standard lenses. The 10mm ain't great. The speed of the scope makes it rather unforgiving of EPs so it's a good idea to save up for some reasonable quality EPs. I wouldn't get any with really short focal length as you'll almost never have conditions

good enough to use it

I've got two SW SWA's in shorter focal legnths and they are good if rather specialist, my recommendations are the same as all other posters here, my primary ep's are the BST Explorers/StarGuiders, however, I have tried the Vixen NPL's and they are crackingly sharp ep's, the 30mm is especially sharp on DSO's.
