BAH!

Had an eventful night. Forecast was good - sky was good, so set up the big gun!

The handset-mount lead snapped the little locking lever thingy off, so now the lead drops out at every available opportunity!

Managed to get it held it long enough to get up and running.

Slewed to Arcturus to start aligning and even my dodgy eye-sight could tell it was way off!

Checked the settings, had Daylight saving set wrong! Try again.

By now Arcturus had dropped below the houses, so off to Vega.

Realised I hadn't put the finder on

Put in a low power to hunt for the brightest star in the sky - Nada!!

Looked up to see clear skies either side, up to about 10 degrees, and then huge swathe of cloud right above me

Stopped for tea

Went out to see complete coverage

Packed away

Had a beer

Stomped off to bed

I'm sorry to read about your evening mate! At least there are a few things that will be at the top of the list for checking next time your out!

We all get evenings like that from time to time, I found out last night that I have an intermittant fault on the home made power lead for the scope. Something I have to fix before Kelling.

Nice report. Sounds very familiar apart from the stomping off bit. I daren't do that in case I wake the wife and get beaten about the head for my pains!

Aa far as the mount cable goes, the same thing happened to me so I now use some network cable I found in my magic box. Works a treat.

Sounds a bit like my Saturday night at SGL3. Astronomy's a harsh mistress mate! If it happens at Kelling or Kielder, at least we can get ratted and put the world to rights eh?

I am usually very good with my set up process and careful with the cables. Oh well!!

I am all fingers and thumbs when it comes to re-doing network cables - luckily I have a man that can do those very things!!!

Ive had nights like that. I came in to let the thin clouds get a little better once, had a cup of tea, and went out to find it was raining. Fortunately not a heavy rain, but it was enough to make me say some choice words and drag the scope back into the shed.

Needs a whole heap of work in the garden (piccy to follow)
