Saturn right now

I can see Saturn right now from my light polluted garden. It's too late for me to put up my 'scope, but what might I be able to see through my 10x50 binos on a tripod?

You can use http://www.12dstring.me.uk/fov.htm to check what is typically viewable at whatever magnification.

Am I right in thinking 10x50 means 10 magnification and 50mm aperture? I don't know if that's enough to pick up the rings...let us know if you can though!

Thanks jflowers, that is what I thought I could just about make out, but I didn't want to put words into someone else's mouth. I cant wait now until I get another clear night and the time to set up my 200P.

Ours are nine and seven, but the same otherwise. Most unpleasant given that I have always been a night owl. I'm looking forward to their teenage years however

I think you will struggle to see much with 10 x 50 in terms of the rings but you will see Titan the moon which will change position from night to night!

Saturn in my 10x50s looks like a disc with an ellipse superimposed - the ellipse being the rings.

Quite so. My avatar is a self-portrait in a South Park stylee. To be fully up-to-date it should have more grey hair however
