The Sun 22 January 2012 white light

Used my new portable pier for the first time today and I'm pleased to report that it is much steadier than the tripod with the EQ5 and Evostar 120 achromat on it. The weather, however was not so good! lots of clouds scudding around in gale force winds - and I was taking pictures through the neighbours trees!

Anyway I managed 37 frames to stack in R5 and process in PS CS5, no filters apart from the Baader Solar on the front of the scope. All a bit ropey and you can still see the clouds!

very nicely done. i had a little look through my brand new pst (got it friday), but the clouds got on my nerves eventually, trying to grab a few seconds here and there in the holes. you have some real patience!

Thanks for that link Merlin - it looks as if it will be very useful. I think the orientation is OK - The Solar North pole is currently to the right of the vertical. I must admit that I had to hurry today so I may be a degree or two out with the orientation - trying to get a spot to run along a reticule in the conditions was not easy! Focus is decidedly "soft" as well.
