Maybe have a look at the Sky and Telescope pocket Sky Atlas, it would be a useful addition to the planisphere and with more detail.

It's reasonably priced as well.

8" Dobsonian will be perfect.. but make sure you get some good binoculars also. 7x40 would make a nice combination of the two..
