  1. On my 12” SL dobsonian I bought the 35mm M4 bobs knobs. On reflection I could have fitted the 30mm M4 as the 35mm ones are a little too long for my OCD.
  2. How do you find using the bino bandit on the Maxbright II Stu? I have two bandits, one lives on my Apollo 15x70’s and the other in a drawer somewhere. Sorry for going off topic for the thread. I’m going to ask about eyepieces for the Maxbright in the relevant section.
  3. Welcome back to the SGL forum. I look forward to your input in the astrophotography threads.
  4. Swap them over one at a time. Carefully remove one screw and replace with the Bobs Knob screw and screw it in slowly until it just makes contact with the secondary holder. Repeat this with the remaining two Bobs knobs screws. Once all three are done just nip them up but not too tight. Check the collimation and tweak if necessary.
  5. You shouldn't have any fluid on the lens incase of any ingress into the lens spacing. Just slightly dampen the cotton bud with the cleaning fluid and any fluid on the lens should immediately evaporate.
  6. One is in decimal format and the one you want is in degrees 👇
  7. I’m pleased to see you reunited with “Big Red”. I knew in my heart of hearts that you were a reluctant seller. Nice CC as well Stu.
  8. What make and type of eyepiece is it? Definitely go for the Baader cleaning kit. I use this for all my optics.
  9. DPD dropped off a Baader Maxbright II binoviewer, T2 32mm prism diagonal, heavy duty quick changer, 2” T2 nosepiece with safety kerfs and a copy of the Duplex moon atlas. I’m just waiting for the GPC’s to come back in stock. I previously owned the Maxbright II and parts but foolishly sold them 🙄. Thought I would get prepared for some lunar and the planetary season approaching.
  10. I always keep the star centered and adjust the collimation, then re centre the star each adjustment. I also use high magnification once I get close to being collimated to get better accuracy while moving the disc in and out of focus.
  11. You’ll drive yourself mad collimating it. I consider myself quite adept at collimating reflectors, SCT’s and Maksutovs but was pulling my hair out with a new CC. Collimation of the secondary is pretty straightforward with a laser but the primary is a different matter. I did eventually get it very close by being under the stars and doing star tests. I returned it and bought a 4” frac.
  12. All you need is an EQ platform to place your dobsonian on. Works great for EAA and short exposure AP.
  13. Great captures Roy. You are causing me to develop a lunar itch that needs scratching
  14. I just used to set them up before it got dark while my scope was cooling. If this isn’t suitable for folk then this is a good workaround. I no longer use them.
  15. Generally all modern mobiles will work fine with your scope.
  16. I think @Peter Drew was referring to the retaining ring around the circumference of the front plate and not the secondary collimation screws.
  17. A very nice little shed you got built there @Alan White. My thoughts are anything you can do to make your observing more comfortable and easier to set up is a huge bonus. Looking forward to its completion and your thoughts in its use.
  18. Welcome to SGL👏. It's a treasure trove of information.
  19. I also preferred the handset rather than the virtual buttons on a phone/tablet. It’s far easier to adjust the eyepiece view while looking through the eyepiece. I sold the dongle I had for my 127 Maksutov.
  20. Personally I love both EQ go to as well as Alt/Az manual. I have found that if I accurately polar align then the go to works fantastic with the targets being just off centre in my 17.5mm Morpheus every time. Saves a lot of observing time.
  21. I must admit I did miss it those few days. This morning I could see people posting but was met by error 500 message each time I tried to sign in. All sorted now 🙂.
  22. After buying and selling several scopes ranging from dobs, fracs and SCT’s I have now settled on this pair of scopes. Combined they provide me with everything I need to enjoy the night sky. My Starfield 102 and my 12” dobsonian.
  23. I am in complete agreement with @Don Pensack regarding the single purchase of a 2x barlow. It gives you such a variety of magnification to choose from at a very reasonable price.
