  1. Guess I just need to get longer arms from somewhere then🤔.
  2. Everything I’ve read states that the gains from flocking are minimal and the same can be attained from only flocking the area around and opposite the focuser. Thoughts?
  3. I must admit I do enjoy doing lunar observing whilst wearing a t-shirt in the summer months. Throw in some of my favourite doubles and a few PN. This is sufficient to get me through the lack of astro darkness.
  4. I was considering flocking my 12” SL dobsonian but at 1500mm fl I can’t get my arm half way down the tube. I foresaw a wrinkled mess occurring so I gave it a miss.
  5. Three by my my count. Phil, Geoffrey and Freddie. How long did it take you to amass your collection Stu?
  6. It’s cheaper on Amazon Amber Reading Lights for Books in Bed – Red Book Light for Reading in Bed - Amber Book Light Clip On https://amzn.eu/d/09Fb32j
  7. Like others I also very seldom use filters when observing. I will use an Astronomik UHC filter for some targets like emission nebulae and a OIII on suitable targets. I tried LP and contrast booster filters along the way but much prefer just an unfiltered view.
  8. I agree that not all Tasco refractors are made equal. But the modern plastic ones are as bad as Ed described unfortunately. Gone are the days of Vixen made Tascos.
  9. Yes I’ve owned the Tak 1.25” prism diagonal and while optically great I also didn’t get on with its twist lock eyepiece holder.
  10. Thank you gentlemen. My 2” WO diagonal has a 1/12 lambda dielectric mirror which I am happy with so I’ll be sticking with that. It’s just that I was always thinking, would I gain anything from a prism diagonal. This has now been answered. Thanks.
  11. I have used both a prism diagonal as well as a mirror one. Has any definitive conclusion been reached as to which is best? Disregarding any orientation aspects of each has one been found to be superior visually to the other. I can vaguely remember reading claims for each advocating their superiority. Thoughts anyone.
  12. The one on the Astrobiscuit video was a 7” and was too heavy to pick up.
  13. The focuser on the telescope is very good and smooth as butter. I had the ZWO EAF on mine which is straightforward to attach to the focuser. There are many people imaging with this telescope and getting good results. The focuser also rotates.
  14. How are you getting along with your Dwarf Stu?
  15. A delivery today by DHL with my new binoculars. I opted for the Helios Apollo 15x70’s as an upgrade from 10x50. I was a bit taken aback by the size of them and how solidly built they are. I particularly like the threaded eyepieces that can accommodate filters. It’s blue skies here so fingers crossed for their first light tonight.
  16. Mine holds position well and the only time its moved has been locking and unlocking the Axil lock. I now have the M63 Baader clicklock on it which removes having to apply turning force on the draw tube. I never move the position of the focuser now and instead just rotate the diagonal with the clicklock.
  17. I have the same telescope only branded the Starfield 102. First Light Optics has two in stock at the moment. They are a fantastic refractor with great optical quality. No sign of chromatic aberration even at high magnification. The 0.8x reducer/flattener added for AP works out at f5.6. You won’t go wrong with this scope.
  18. Now that you have done it, it will get easier and quicker each time until it almost becomes a habit.
  19. That’s an interesting placement for the ADC. They recommended that it’s immediately before the eyepiece or camera. Have you tried it in both positions?
  20. The setting circle has a locking screw on it which you tighten after successfully setting the home position. There’s many videos on YouTube explaining this procedure for EQ mounts. NPE is non perpendicular error. You can use the hand controller to set this to zero and eliminate the constant messaging.
  21. DPD and the postie delivered these items today. The Baader Sky Surfer V which I bought to combine my nighttime observing as well as solar. The Move Shoot Move phone holder and the last 5 coloured filters to complete the set.
  22. I prefer an EQ mount for my Starfield and agree with @Franklin regarding the tracking at high magnification. Now if I had a nice Rowan mount with a Nexus attached I could possibly be swayed (maybe).
  23. Good point. I have a Stella Lyra dobsonian and I’ll need to calculate how much spare focus travel i have to see if it will accommodate the ADC. I presume that the addition of a barlow would sort it.
  24. Thanks. I was thinking about using it on my 12” dobsonian on an EQ platform. Thoughts?
