  1. I have a Rigel quickfinder on my 8” dobsonian alongside my RACI and starsense unit (overkill) I also had trouble with the Rigel coming loose after a month or so despite buying good quality tape and cleaning the adhesion site. I ended up buying a triple dovetail base and modifying the Rigel to accept a finder shoe. Problem solved . I also have a telrad on my Maksutov which I love and deem it to be superior to the Rigel.
  2. I had overlooked mentioning this new red/white head torch. I decided to get one a bit more substantial than the others I’ve had previously. Powered by two rechargeable 18650’s
  3. I have found that filters are of little to no use when galaxies are concerned and prefer viewing them without. On the odd occasion a Baader neodymium skyglow can help
  4. I was experiencing the odd session when my secondary mirror would start to dew up. I bought the Astro Essentials 8” dew shield which remedied the problem. I have never experienced any dew on my primary mirror. My dobsonian is the Stella Lyra, but they are basically all the same design.
  5. Hi Chris 👋, welcome to SGL
  6. DPD dropped off the last two Nirvanas this morning. The 13mm and the 4mm. Now I just need to buy a new case to accommodate the five new additions.
  7. The APM superzoom has a FOV of 66 degrees, whilst the BST Starguiders are 60 degrees.HTH
  8. The way I’m reading this is that you need 55mm from your flattener. If you add this to your 7.1mm of your flattener you have the 62.1mm as per the WO recommendation
  9. Postman just dropped off another Nirvana, this time courtesy of @Astro_Dad. That’s the 10mm taken care of and the last two have just been dispatched from FLO.
  10. I will need to buy another case now to accommodate the five Nirvanas. You tend to overlook these things until they arrive.
  11. Just bought myself back two eyepieces that I foolishly sold being the Nirvanas 16mm and 7mm. I have also ordered another two. the 13mm and 4mm. I am also waiting on the 10mm being delivered as I recently bought it from an SGL member. Has anyone else bought an eyepiece that they had previously sold?

    Hiatus over

Welcome back to the lounge 👋
  13. I gifted my grandson the Celestron 70LT refractor after I had removed the Starsense unit for my dobsonian. I also gave him several eyepieces that would perform better than the supplied achromats. He was smiling ear to ear when I had centered Saturn in the eyepiece. He was caught up in an astro buzz for the remainder of the night as I toured the major sights for him. Now he’s arranging his stay overs at mine depending on the clear skies app. I don’t think his dad is too keen on spending nights outside in the cold with him. I’m only too happy to step in and nurture the boys interest, as after all I started it
  14. I have an 8” Stella Lyra Dobsonian and they perform great in a suburban sky as well as a dark site. There’s a very good reason why they have a large and loyal following. Looking forward to your first light 🔭
  15. You landed yourself a bargain. He’s not had the scope long and it will be in great condition. I’m sure that you’ll enjoy it.
  16. The slightest movement of the Starsense unit will greatly throw the alignment out. I would seriously consider using a more secure method of attachment.
  17. No astigmatism in my 17.5mm Morpheus, both in cyclops and in my binoviewer. Sharp to the edge.🙂
  18. I also bought the Celestron 70LT refractor to cannibalize the Starsense unit for my 8” Stella Lyra Dobsonian. I modified the base of the unit so that it would fit on the standard finder bracket. I also bought a multi finder bracket in order to accept the Starsense and my existing RACI. The unit is working well and I will also emphasize the need for accurate initial alignment.
  19. What is causing the multiple diffraction spikes? I know that the secondary mirror spider is responsible for them with Newtonian scopes, but why are there multiple diffraction spikes in these images taken with a hyperstar? Puzzled 🤔
  20. Fantastic eyepiece. Once you start using it you will develop an itch to buy the other focal lengths. Keep us posted 👍
  21. I bought a full set of dew bands for my 4 scopes, finder and eyepieces. I also bought the 4 channel controller and several cables of my custom lengths. Great products and service. HTH Ian
  22. With my refractors If there was dew I bring it indoors uncapped and point it down. I also remove any eyepieces and rotate the diagonal so that it’s pointing to the floor to stop any dust ingress. Next day I use my blower to remove any dust from the objective and recap, turn the diagonal upright again and fit a desiccant cap.
