  1. boost your gain a couple bumps in processing to reveal the spicule layer. (My only suggestion to further improve your images) Download the app "PIPP", i find it really helps a ton before i run the raw vide into autostakkert. This adds a pre-processing area to the work flow so you get the most! Yu are missing half the fun of h-0alpha by subtracting the limb!
  2. i am convinced there is a secret technology out there for image processing that we do not get to play with as civilians. about 13 years ago , i distinctly remember some random someftware prototype "thing" i found on the net called dragon. It was developed by microsoft or assimilated by them. The gist of this was also using a sort of "AI" funtion to rebuild an image. First you input something, then it automatically sourced ;literally; every image on the internet accessed by a neural network system with 1000's of cores. So you took a picture of the eyeball of a statue in a random museum, and the AI would find the eyeball posted on the internet by millions of humans that actually visited the statue and posted a photo of it on the internet. The AI and Super core algorithm takes crops and pixels from literally every photo on the internet, and rebuilds a mosaic. The mosaic turns out so well, and so many people have photographed stuff in the museum the mosic becomes startling real and three dimensional. Every angle of that statue ever photographed and every picture ever uploaded to the internet of that statue, is sourced into one new image. This was captured with the calcium filters suppled by Apollo Lasky, mounted inside the skybender module for tilt control of the prominence layer. using a basler aca1920-155um camera usb3.0 camera. Firecapture was used for recording, and set to 1500 frames. limit. The recording delay was set to 2s. So 1 video of 1500 frames, was captured after 2 seconds of time is elapsed. My exposure time was set to 4ms i believe, and gain to 20. Gamma was set to 65. I recorded until all disc space was used up, which was about 200 frames in the end. Not all frames are presented here however.
  4. you have nailed very well processing here , stick with it and always save your processing settings. They are usually unique to your own telescope and camera setup / filter setup. I would keep the one you have in this session for sure! I like to share mine )the imppg setting(, attached are what i have been using lately for the calcium procesing. First i do the "brighter first pass" which kind brings up the spicule layer. Then the "last pass B" is for a bit of slightly agressive sharpening to focus.   5. Here in the United States, most of our children are on some type of remote learning program due to yada yada. During processing my images and helping out the kids, some mumblings of " the color purple would look neat." was heard over my shoulder...

  7. Some people prefer this style of calcium processing I prefer the light; however (near the end of the presentation the image brightness fades due to the wildfire smoke rolling in.)
  8. I reside in the central great plains of the United States, and recently our west coast has been set on fire by rioters and arsonists due to civil unrest. The smoke from these residential homes and forests burning, is delivered high into the atmosphere where it hit the jetstream and has traveled well over 1000 miles to blanket my sky. While i can still take some images, it has greatly reduced my session quality at 393nm. Naturally the smoke properties absorbes or reflects much of this wavelength. The sun is very white in the sky in fact, white as a cotton ball in some areas. However, i am vigilant in my attempt to capture something out of the new active region. Please be patient while this data is processed. First we have a look here at the paris meudon bass2000 spectroheliograph , which records its daily calcium k3 core full disc. I have added an arrow to the tiny area that my scope is focused on at about 2400mm.. Full image disc citing goes to paris meudon observatory, with corresponding link to the wonderful and most vital French institution. http://bass2000.obspm.fr/home.php Next from my telescope, operting with an explore scientific Firstlight 127mm x 1200mm achromat. In the focuser is a Skybender tilt module with some calcium filters supplied by Apollo Lasky. I am using a Meade 2x telenegative barlow in the eyepiece of the skybender, and a basler aca1920-155um cmos camera for recording. Look at those calcium ribbon's! This is a rare capture, seldom seen since cycle 24, a decade ago.
  9. i do have a slightly extended version. I bumped the mount and hit the computer so it changed a bunch of settings during my capture and then clouds rolled in There was some nice transfer in the prominence, wish i had the entire event.
  10. There appears to be a good show in the works just around the limb. 1500 frames per video- 2 second delay between recording - 8% stacked with 35% sharpened / raw enabled in autostakkert3.   15. highest frame rate possible (usb3), for the focal length you will be using most. You want to image with critical sampling ratio without a barlow for practical purposes.   17. Last week I recorded a calcium limb surge. Later that night I discovered another user in the world on astrobin (Warren Spreng) who had captured the same event in hydrogen alpha at nearly the same focal length. The was an incredibly rare occurrence. I merged our two captures together, and this is the result. Red is the hydrogen alpha data, blue is the calcium data. I do believe this has a "one in a billion" capture odds, and few(if any) amateurs have ever been able to share and merge this type of time-lapse data. Enjoy!
  18. Here is my optical schematic for what is happening with this right now. Currently this layout is producing a relay magnification factor of just 1.0775. This has changed my prime focus / focal length to 1293mm. Now Calculating for "ccd critical focus" of my basler aca1920-155um camera to get optimal performance. A prime imaging focal length of 4650mm is required for a 127mm objective; operating at 393nm wavelength. http://www.wilmslowastro.com/software/formulae.htm#CCD_Sampling Now displaying the schematic with the added 1550mm extension to achieve critical focus, by boosting magnification to 3.875x . Because the total length of this modification will exceed 3000mm, it will require two additional diagonal mirrors to redirect the image back down to the focuser.
