  1. Yes it's 15s exps , about 4 minutes in total. It's quite strange as it only becomes really obvious when trying to edit the photo. As I apply a curve, add contrast, brightness the banding effect becomes obvious. Like a zebra dark/light pattern. I tried the mobile lightroom app ,and it was there but less obvious. I also tried editing some older RAW photos taken earlier in the year, and with the same phone. The older photos didn't have the banding pattern, when I used Snapseed to edit them. I know the pixel 4a is not recieving any more updates since October. It shouldn't affect the camera though.
  2. I've seen a bright earth grazer meteor heading towards me from the SW a few years back. It was twilight and the meteor flared up in short bursts as it tracked. The meteor was visible for about three seconds, between the bright flare ups, the meteor became dim, so it appeared to have a stepped track, brightening and almost disappearing.
  3. It's woth taking more photos, as the Aurora is ramping up on the app..... Thick fog here.
  4. Phone photo about 18.30GMT this evening. The Aurora is still quite active, but fog has arrived now. Can't see the fog shifting tonight.
  5. The Aurora activity seems to be increasing again.
  6. Looks like the UK is in the wrong hemisphere this time.
  7. Mention of this on Spaceweather https://www.spaceweather.com/

  9. 25/11/23 18.20GMT With a 96% moon Quite surprised I was able to see a hint of pink when I took this picture. Maybe the blue colour from the moon, contrasted with the pink. This would likely of been a powerful display without the moonlight.
  10. 01.00 GMT I didn't actually see this , as I was looking north at the time. But the camera picked up either a satellite flare, or possibly a northern Taurid. It looks white, usually meteors leave green or orange in the trails. 13s ISO 1600 f3.5
  11. This is strange as I edited some astrophotos taken by my 4a earlier in the year. The banding doesn't show up nearby as bad as the image above. I've tried cleaning the lens, doesn't seem to help. I know the pixel 4a is no longer receiving updates, not sure if that could be an AI problem with the camera.
  12. Golden Venus rising in the east. 05.00GMT Just managed to see one Leonid skimming past Capella between clouds.
  13. Thanks The colours in the first shot would of been amazing, IF the clouds were not in the way!
  14. I've always used Snapseed to edit RAW photos on my pixel 4a. And Polish editor for jpg. Recently I've noticed annoying banding across the photo when trying to edit them with Snapseed. As soon as I open the photo in Snapseed the banding appears , ,haven't noticed this before to this extent, anyone else have this issue? It seems to be when changing the exposure or brightness that makes the problem worse.

  16. I tried looking for comet 103P Hartley this morning using a short exposure with DSLR and tripod. Stellarium mobile has 103P Hartley at mag 8.3 I could not detect it. Using the same equipment I easily found comet H2 Lemmon, recently listed as magnitude 10.4 The claimed magnitude is misleading for these comets. Is this par for the course with comets?
  17. Some phone and DSLR photos from 5/11/23 Looking west View in the Northeast Overhead North PXL_20231105_215020505.NIGHT~3.mp4
  18. I remember that night was fairly cloudy, and about 21.30 the clouds thinned out. About 21.45 the Aurora suddenly ramped up. By eye there were rays like searchlights, and a subtle red/green colour, the glow from the Aurora gently silhouetting the clouds.
  19. Yes I was outside for about 25mins and saw one. Then went again for 30 secs to check for clouds, and saw another. It's around the Peak of the Taurids now, but these were not from that radiant.
  20. While looking for Comet H2 Lemmon ,I've seen two fast moving moderately bright meteors heading Southwest from cygnus towards Altair.
  21. The forecast G2 storm seems to of Arrived. Obviously a lot of the country is now cloudy. One thing about Aurorawatch UK is that they lag slightly behind realtime sightings. As they update hourly, by the time they are showing orange or red, the activity can already be over. https://aurorawatch.lancs.ac.uk/ The Glendale app was already orange alert nearly an hour ahead of Aurorawatch.
  22. There were a few reports of Aurora last night from Lincs and Northants. But this was not from naked eye observations. This was on camera after long exposures. I think what people may of mistaken for Aurora on camera, was patches of misty low cloud with light pollution showing up orange/ green. The most reliable and accurate way I've found to see if Aurora is occuring, is the the Glendale Aurora app. https://aurora-alerts.uk/
  23. From this evening 11/11/23 18.40 GMT DSLR and 55-300 zoom, single shot 20s exposure ISO 3200. Thin clouds arrived 10s iso6400
  24. This is the BBC version of cloudy. Literally within 1min of opening the shutter it clouded up. Managed to find it again, and sky is clearer at the moment. 😉
