  1. Make sure the box is checked that says “embed changes but do not apply them” as this will clip all the data, you want all the info there to take to PS or similar for further processing, but don’t do anything with DSS other than stacking, as it’s useless for anything else.. HTH,
  2. I have guided my SCT at 1500mm focal length with an 80mm guidescope, no problem....I have never used an OAG..
  3. I assumed the only way to focus the OAG is to move the Lodestar closer or further away from prism....so if no adjustment on OAG to move Lodestar then you will need spacers..or an adjustable spacer..
  4. Hmmm, I have those and mine all run automatically, and have done since installed, so not sure what to say really as it’s not something I did, it’s just worked from the start.....sorry can’t be more help
  5. I think my version of Ubuntu mate is 15...something....only installed a month or two ago..
  6. I know this is an old thread, but I am now using an rpi3 to control all my kit, and Indi library and Kstars / Ekos for my deep sky imaging, but wanted a Linux based software for planetary work and came across this...so firstly would this suit my needs, secondly, as I am fairly new to Linux, how would I go about loading and using on my Ubuntu mate based rpi3... Many thanks
  7. Wow, that’s a good one.... thought the prices I found on eBay were bad....
  8. And another... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sky-Watcher-EvoGuide-50ED-50mm-ED-Guidescope/192454314128?epid=6014815914&hash=item2ccf2bc890:g:wosAAOSwfpBagaQ2
  9. Do people really get away with these prices, just because stock is low.... check out the name of the store too..... unbelievable... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sky-Watcher-EvoGuide-50ED-50mm-ED-Guidescope/142690358857?epid=6014815914&hash=item2139021649:g:LMcAAOSwXtNahJgJ
  10. I was under the impression, that version of the Idas filter has been around for sometime...or is it a new version of the older D2 model...?
  11. I think so, see @JohnSadlerAstro he has recently done the mod, and found it quite straight forward, he has made a thread on it..
  12. Yes you can save that £60... as for the rest, the normal Astro mod as I call it, which you will be getting with the camera you link to, will not have any blurring and can be used with Autofocus with a lens, because the guy at cheapasteophotography, Juan, shims the sensor to counteract the removal of the filter to regain auto focus, he does this as part of the filter removal mod on the cameras before he sells them. Now if you were to do the mod yourself you would not do that, hence having a blurry image when using autofocus after the camera Astro mod, but only with a camera lens, not using a telescope... HTH
  13. It doesnt blur the image, persay, the reason for a slightly out of focus image after the mod is only with autofocus using a lens, as this will be slightly out due to a piece of glass being removed from the imaging train, but with a telescope not at all an issue...
  14. @PhotoGav a little off topic, but would you mind me asking about your website, which is excellent I must say, what site did you use and what theme, as I love the simplistic yet perfect layout, it just works, and am thinking of creating one for my astro journey. Or did you build from scratch using HTML.... sorry for the off topic question..
  15. Yes, the second filter left in the camera has good IR cut, hence why it is left in place, so nothing else is needed, Unkess you have bad Light pollution, then you will need an LP filter, and if you go for the clip in type (or any CLS for that matter) for canon cameras, you only need the standard CLS version and not the CLS CCD as the difference between these two filters is the more expensive one has built in IR cut, which you will not need.
  16. They are the same thing, Astro modding the camera means removing one of the two filters in front of the camera sensor that blocks the red end of the light spectrum, and increases the Ha response.. The Baader part just means replacing that filter with a Baader clear glass filter, but it is not at all needed, especially if the camera will only be used for AP...
  17. I like the idea of the lock nuts on the alignment screws (assuming that’s what they are) that’s something I have thought about putting on mine, so you can remover the scope and not have to re align when fitted back...
  18. Hi, we are trying to sell our house up here in the middle of the country, to mover to Newquay (or somewhere near), so will keep an eye on this thread with interest...
  19. Is the lead the same one as used with the Hub and there own motor assembly, as I already have one of those.. just wondered if the wiring in the DB9 plug would be the same..
  20. Please forgive me as slightly off topic, but just noticed in your image above of your scope and set up, you have a Pegasus hub, can you tell me if the focuser controller built into that works ok with the Lakeside motor on your focuser..?? Again sorry all for the off topic question, it won’t happen again...
  21. I totally agree with you....I would be the same, just hope you get it sorted and are satisfied with the outcome..
  22. Just had a look on Modern astronomy and the wedge has been discontinued and is being replaced with a new product, soon....looks like they will have a new version..... https://www.modernastronomy.com/shop/accessories/mount-accessories/mkiii-eq6wedge/
  23. That wedge has been around for a few years now and it is on the fourth or fith revision, it looks superb, but I think there are a few issues with it, hence it has not taken off like it should have done, Modern Astronomy also used to sell them, (and may still) he will know a lot more about the past issues and whether they are all sorted now..I personally love the idea and have thought about getting one, but for a permanent set up that only gets polar aligned or at least checked once or twice a year, it’s a lot of money....
  24. Surely it’s obvious what the problem is, whay does it have to be returned for them to see that......I have dealt with this retailer before, I wont mention there name, but my experience with them was terrible to be honest, I don’t trust them one bit, they seem to be very lacking of experience, and I certainly would not but a belt modded Mount from them....as that mod is for someone with good skills and patience...
  25. The thing is if you send back that means it’s going to be chucked about by a courier, and when it gets there they will look at it and say “oh yes the bolts are crap” then they will offer to send it back to you again with a new set of bolts and yet again the courier chucks it about and it could get back in a worse state and cause you more hassle.. so wouldn’t it be best to ask them to cover the cost of a new set of bolts instead of sending back and potentially having more issues, if they refuse then, (would be very petty of them to) just send back but, then get a refund and go elsewhere.... :]
