  1. Rosette, 86 2-minute subs with the 450D, cooled, no darks, first stab at processing, think I can do a bit better and also add Ha. Amended, this is with 5hr 11 minutes across two years...
  2. Seems over-specced for a guidescope but surely a cracker as a wide-field imaging scope?
  3. A frustrating year for me. I cooled my camera and started guiding, but too much to learn and not enough clear nights to get the knack of everything. All of these with a 450D and 130P-DS, except M27 which may have been the 150PL.
  4. Some nice cases there. Just avoid oak, the tannic acid causes corrosion, it destroys tools...
  5. Not possible to remain in earth orbit and test the full system - unless they had put a 64-tonne load on top. Two articulated lorries? In fact a load heavy enough to remain in orbit would have been very difficult to re-enter safely as it wouldn't burn up. Something in orbit WOULD be hazardous space junk
  6. Bet he's chuffed with that video - could do with making some flats though
  7. What's the point of a 3D printer if you can't make tea with it as well?
  8. See the CGI mission profile. They flip, re-ignite the motor and fly back where they came. They flip again, deploy grid-fins to give them aerodynamic stability and use the motors to control the descent. The principle is simple, the engineering and computer control must be incredible. If you watch from about 1:25 the animated ones land with a bigger gap between them than the real ones!
  9. Musk has tweeted that the boost will actually take it almost as far out as Ceres. Looks like they decided to invest propellant in maxing the orbit rather than landing the core - let's face it recover core benefits them, bigger orbit benefits their customers.
  10. I reckon the centre core has had it though - you could see he got some news and then was told not to share it and spoil the moment...
  11. That was one of the most remarkable sights I have ever seen - Gerry Anderson eat your heart out!
  12. Awesome. That was the most amazing launch since Apollo, notwithstanding the Shuttle. They have finally made something that counts as a real spaceship, rather than just a rocket. Next step is a shuttle. I wonder if the central booster made it?
  13. Now going live: http://www.spacex.com/webcast
  14. Check out that thread - people there are getting 30 seconds to a minute before field rotation is spoiling their images. Its all about getting the best out of an AZ mount.
  15. If my star goes nova, will I get a refund?
  16. Jocular - Scottish Eyepiece. <I'll get my coat>
  17. Take a look at this thread for advice on longer exposures, perhaps using a shorter focal length, to pull out more detail:
  18. I know, I was rather pleased with myself
  19. I made a shielded for my 130P-DS using campmat. I superglued it along the join and wrapped it with duct tape on the outside and lined the inside with flock (its white). I store it by fitting the open end to the back of the scope. This means it is always nice and round, when I come to use it. It has a duct-tape arrowhead on the side so I know which way to fit it.
  20. Nice. Your blue stars are bluer than mine.
