  2. I have looked through that scope many years ago , looked at Saturn which was low in the sky and honestly the view was no better than my 14" newt perhaps it was the seeing that made it not as good as it might have been. still a privilege though to have looked through it Harry

  6. Hi If you look at your above log you will see the SNR is 0% and therefore Pixinsight can work out a weight - the image be very low on signal So do not use the weighting part of the script to get round this or stars/cluster as you say - personally would ignore the weight option Regards Harry

Hi I think the change to the charging model in SGP could have been handled better , but its up to you the user to decide if you want go down that river. there are other packages like voyager which might offer you more than sgp and has a version that can run 2 or more cameras , but still has to paid for We are Lucky that very complex software is available to us for relitivley low cost. as always you pays your money and make your choice or not Harry

Hi I have been using voyager for over a year now and was initially drawn to it because it offered rock solid stability and indeed it is rock solid I have tried to make it crash by yanking out cables etc - the software reports a fault without crashing and has several ways of reporting emails texts etc. For me a system lock up was the ultimate nightmare and wasted valuable time. And since I have started the program has offered many improvements and is being upgraded all the time - It takes a different approach in how it works like the drag scrip which is really a drag command system and is very very user configurable . I would urge people to give it a go - much to learn -much to gain Regards Harry

Hi when using sgp I do the following 1) Use the mosaic and framimg tool to select a target and field rotation to suit the object and then save this imformation as a target ( you can use a previous image as a referance ) 2) when setting up I just do a blind solve to get things going so the scope knows where its looking and the camera rotation 3) make sure the manual rotator is selected 4) right click on the target saved earlier and there will a option to rotate the camera - select this 5) sgp will then work out the differance between your current camera rotation and the targets rotation and tell you how much to rotate the camera by ( inc clockwise or anticlockwise info ) 6) do the amount suggested and let sgp tell you again how far you are out It might take 2 or 3 goes but I can get to less than 1 deg very easily- of course this is all done by plate solving , which you must have set up first all this can be done while off target , make it easier to make sure you can access camera rotation easily cheers Harry
  11. Hi This was/is a known problem caused by a windows update- I thought it was solved by the latest release of pixinsight this means a full reinstall - not just a update If it is still a problem please post of the pixinsight forum and hopefully it will be looked into cheers Harry

Hi I remember seeing images of the horsehead nebula many years ago and thinking I need to be into this imaging game and I have tried many times to get a decent image of the horsehead , but it is low in the orange gooo around here and have failed many times with various scopes Now I have tried with my tak 106 ( f5 ) and a sx sxvr H35 and even though I am still short on data ( yes Never enough is there) I am reasonbly happy with it Did struggle with processing and this is my upteenth attempt and perhapes will come back to it next year It consists of 270min lum and 270min RGB taken in 5 min subs please see here for a high res version http://www.harrysastroshed.com/imagepages/nebulapages/horse.html Thanks for looking Regards Harry

Hi Nothing beats a good discussion IMO the optical distance never changes I.E a reducer with a FL of 55mm will always be 55mm regardless of what glass you put in line ( flat glass only ) hence why the pinhole setup works its just that the phsical length will change with the introduction off filters etc , I have measured this with various set ups . So I always add to the physical length to adapt to various inline filters . Very often there are so many other posible errors ( i.e camera chip set back ) that practical trial and error at the scope is sometimes easier Regards Harry
  22. Hi I am afraid I disagree with you here If any glass / filter is introduced into the light path, the focal point will be shifted out by approx 1/3 the thickness off the glass - so the mechanical lenth must be increased to compensate I admit it all gets very confusing sometimes Regards Harry

Hi not much help I know but I also this problem sometimes and have no idea why it does it IMO its a bug somewhere and there are a few that I have come accross I make sure I sync looking well east or west as the mount can get confused where its looking and which side of the pier it is and sometimes no amount of syncing will work and a reboot is required to get things running again Harry
