  1. Welcome to one of the best sources of Astronomy related information and support.
  2. Do you just want to look at the night sky, or do you want to take pictures? You could always try a copy of Turn Left At Orion, that seems to be good for letting you find things you may want to look at, or, Making every photon count, which does include basic geometry mathematics around how you can track a particular target, more geared to capturing and processing images.
  3. I have been working on an EXCEL spread sheet (work in progress) to allow me to select my kit and calculate FoV, effective focal length, f ratio, optimum exposure, effective imaging circle and guiding pixel scale. This is attached for critical comment. Astrodata Shared.xlsx If 50+ individuals approve this I will do a usage video. The tabs with data in the names are tables where you can add new products by entering details at the blank row at the bottom. I will be adding calculations to provide total load vs mount payload shortly.
  4. slang term for a bed covering with a filling such as feathers to provide warmth You might know it as duvet.
  5. Do you just want to look at the night sky, or do you want to take pictures? Which ever, do you want planets, stars or galaxies, nebula? etc. These may help determine your path to astronomical frustration hehehe
  6. Under high pressure and temperature one atom of Hydrogen forms Helium, which under greater temperature/pressure for Lithium and this progresses to produce other elements. At some point we get to where different elements combine to make others <shrug> beyond me. There is no need to be concerned about sub-atomic particles such as quarks just now. If you get that there are 3 bits in an atom, with positive and negative charges ( like battery has +ve and -ve), and neutrons with none, that's good enough right now. You do not need to know what makes up potions, electrons or neutrons just now. Hell, Physicist's that have serious advanced equipment are still working out these sub-atomic particles - which is why they have toys like CERN
  7. I also don't understand why you are expected to understand the science, particularly given the cost of these online telescope sites. Some one once said, "tell me, I forget, show me, I remember, let me do, I understand". It is much better to do. I think that the more "astronomy" you do, the easier the science behind becomes. You could not need to be a Stephen Hawking to do any sort of astronomy. The most "science" you probably need right now is how the earth revolves around it's axis - the earth rotates on it's North-South axis, under the stars which is why the stars appear to rotate ( they don't, we do). This will help you understand what the telescopes are doing. BTW re Ionised gases These are different types of gas "stimulated" by high intensity radiation, such as that we get from the sun, and causes them to emit light in various colours, much the same as the Aurora (and Australis) Borealis. Hope this helps a little
  8. I have 3 motion cameras in the Gard going full coverage of the area. There is also an Apple tracker thing attached to the mount., and the OTAs, in addition, my insurance cover includes specified items (description and serial number provided) kept outdoors against damage or theft.
  9. how about getting a downie in the car boot an laying the rig on that?
  10. This year RedCat 51 on AVX. Why? I can lift OSC camera, fouler, RedCat and ASIPro off with one hand, and only two cables, power and data to hand controller (and SWMBO bought as a present Sao have to be seen to use :)) Last year Celestron 8" SCT on CGEM-DX. I plan to do the same type of configuration with ASIPro as above mono camera, OAG added and filter wheel. I really want to get the 10" Quattro CF out, but too much wind even on a pier and CGX-L.
  11. That was a deciding factor for me when I got the Equinox 80 ED doublet, it pack more easily than does my Esprit 80.
  12. There are many 80ED refractors, e.g. Skywatcher have two lines, Esprit and Evostar (there was also the discontinued Equinox), at different price points. Hence my question about budget. I may be missing something when people say ED80 as something being a specific model.
  13. Sorry, but nah,not this one, in the one I remember there were spheres at each planets orbit
  14. You have mentioned a couple of options, but what sort of budget do you have?
  15. Dyson sphere then? I vaguely recall a book/novella where a crew moved outwards from earth orbit shell Does anyone else remember this, and who wrote it?
  16. I had some data from a couple of years ago from an ASI1600MM-C, with LRGBHa filters on a Quattro 10"CF There is a lot of gradient that I can't seem to get rid of using PixInsight (I am new to this app as well). 200 x 60s Lights 140 x 60s Blue 139 x 60s Green 138 x 60s Red 139 x 60s Ha Image05.fit LRGBHa were preprocessed using WBPP 2.4.3 I then used LRGB Combination ( ignoring Lum) and DBE, 8 pixels, 50 per row, subtraction and division, separately ABE on each of those BGneutralisation no joy
  17. there is this video for installing Skywatcher's focus motor on the Evostar. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwj6pqHrpuv3AhWTM8AKHetlCicQwqsBegQIBhAB&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DgpIteLt3xcw&usg=AOvVaw03vFuRrt-qvyLs-iYp8NLt If you are looking at ZWO's focussed, FLO sell a bracket for the Esprit ED80, not sure if fits the Evostar.
  18. How about a local blacksmith, should be able to heat things up little.
  19. I have used the ZWO ASI 120mm as guide camera with a skywatcher ST 80mm mounted on 8" SCT, 10" newt, also with WO slide guide on WO Redcat and the combinations. Yet to be proven/tested is with an OAG; have this sitting on an 8" SCT, I expect that to be successful - once there is enough good weather to get focus
  20. I had an external dual 240V socket fitted to the house wall, and run an outdoor extension to the rig; the extension is also IR54 rated.
  21. What model phone are you using and where are you storing the original image
  22. I tried it differently did a copy/paste from Photos app to this thread
  23. I shared you image to the photos app on my phone. here is a screen capture of the result on the phone seems OK to me
