  1. Getting paranoid here, was outside looking up trying to see if there was any hazy cloud about, briefly glimpsed the neighbour having a curtain twitch at me through their top window. About a minute later she switches on the back garden security light! It's not even remotely dark yet! Half tempted to switch on my subwoofer and rage play some drum 'n' bass...

  2. Darkest night I have had to date, neighbours out and no security lights. Searched for an hour for M101 using telrad, 9x50 RACI and stellarium, no joy :( Am still yet to see a galaxy...

I have also tried for m81/m82, 82 to try and glimpse the SN, no luck there either, although light pollution was a fair degree heavier when I last searched. Last night was a little frustrating as it was a very rare occasion whereby the neighbours had all turned off their death rays and seeing was pretty reasonable and dark. Patience and practise, I'll get there eventually, thanks for the comments peoples.

Sir! If that is natural I bring into question the human genome :) But, more importantly, why the rectangular face?? :D

  5. Just 'flocked' my house with grey wool army surplus blankets! Massive difference to my viewing area (patio) without my family having to watch Eastenders in the dark .

Hazechosis, you see what you thought was a planet but it flares like something trying to abduct you and convince you to tell the world on discovery....happens all the time.

If your talking about madejski stadium I used to live rose kiln lane area next to the holy brook, wasn't stargazing back then but whenever those flood lights were on it was like a light dome in the distance :)

  9. Thinking having kids and working 5 out of 7 night makes stargazing a little hard to fit in

    1. HumptyMoo

      HumptyMoo

Well, lets look at this logically, you need to work and giving up stargazing is not an option, that only leaves one thing that has to go... :)

      HumptyMoo

M45 has had meaning ever since the first humans spotted it thousands of years ago, nothing newbie about viewing it, it's spectacular with naked eye or assistance.

Out of interest, is that stitching together really high mag stills for a massive picture, or are you taking a bunch of photos and stitching together a lunar map made of the best quality images/parts of images?

  21. Still bothered by who named some of these DSOs. "Hagrid's Dragon", for instance. And surely there should be a "Dobby"?

    1. HumptyMoo

      HumptyMoo

Chances are probably good that some planet somewhere actually has a dobsonian constellation...even if no one is there to name it. As for Hagrid....tis' better than "Puff the magic"? :)
