  2. Just bought an Altair Astro Starwave 70ED kit from Tring Astro...arrived promptly but minus the rdf..sorted within the day and that RDF arrived today. Excellent serive from a great team...nice shop too if you are in the area.
  3. Basically you are restricted to afocal photography, so s special bracket is needed. With afocal work you also tend to get more vignetting of the image. It is OK for lunar and planetary but widefield needs a lot of cropping.
  4. Shiney new AA 70ED just landed on my desk......

  5. Great night at Seething Obervatory, crisp and clear but a bit windy. Saw Lovejoy, so I am a happy bunny

  6. Oh dear..just ordered an AA Starwave 70ED kit...clouds incoming!

Congrats! on the scope- not the clouds :)

  7. I must admit, I use the Baader more than theCcelestron becuase of the overall better field of view, 68 Deg at 8mm and 50 Deg at 24mm, plus the range of extras and adpaters is very very good. I am going to buy some of the fixed shorter focal length ep's for planetary work. http://www.firstlightoptics.com/user/baader_hyperion_imaging.pdf Shows the ways the ep's can be used.
  8. I have both the Celestron and Baader zoom. Both are good visually. I have tested the Baader for afocal photography connected to my Canin 650D. At 24mm it is a bit soft from 50% out, at 8mm it is soft from about 70% out. I must test the Celestron. I have two zooms as I was given the Celestron.
  9. Was a lovey crisp and clesr day yesterday u around Kings Lynn, so I thought I would do a bit of solar observing when I gor back to Ely...it was not to be, Ely was fogged in and still -2C

  13. I have used a monopod and pistol grip (off Amazon) for my 15x70's. It works well, But to use it I sit back in a camping chair with the monopod braced into the ground between my legs. It is pretty steady. I also have a tripod but getting high angles is a problem.
  14. Another 5 days and I am out of Shanghai..thanks God. The internet is constantly interupted if you are using a non Chinese computer and trying to log onto sites like SGL.. or the Beeb.

It has taken 7 month of campaigining to get Mrs B a visa, despite us being married 14 years and having lived in Aus..The UK are raising the bar on non EU folk and do not look properly at the circumstances.

See the KK saga...my car is parked at Heathrow.

Be thankful for something at least. Last time I was there at an internet cafe, was told I was using their Windows 99 :/ I soon left. Gotta love that place *cough*

I lived 10 years in Shanghai, then 4.5 in Perth WA then back here last year for 6 months and now relocated to Ely UK, only visiting to sort out the visa issue. Cannot see anything dimmer than -1 mag where we have a house.

  15. Welcome to SGL..invest in a copy of Turn Left At Orion. This will give you a good idea of what targets DSO's, double stars, clusters etc are reachable with your 130SLT.
  16. Glacial internet speeds, constant interuptions, pages that wont load, sites blocked...yes I am in China!

Even SGL pages do not load correctly...that is serious.

Have a look at the Tor browser, its pretty good at circumventing blocked stuff, but has limited functions compared to a full-fat browser.

  18. Off to Shanghai tomorrow until the 31st Dec. Still trying to sort out the visa problems the Foreign Office is creating for my wife of 14 years. Will be in Schloss Baggy by mid February just outside Kings Lynn.

Will be in West Winch....it would be good to meet up.

  19. Nice work Nick. If I think I might be off in the car early morning then I pack the car the night before. Around my way this is OK as it is pretty safe and my grab and go kit can be hidden in the boot.
