  1. Been flipping between this and a thread regarding binoviewing and if my understanding is correct that in a slow scope (F10 or F12) if I wanted to use binoviewers I could arrange my kit in the following order. Diagonal - ANC - Barlow - Bino/Eyepieces. The reason I ask is that the increase in the focal train when using binoviewers means a 2x barlow is actually around a 4x increase. So if you then stick the ADC after the barlow you are probably up over x5. Can anybody add weight to this as I am thinking of having a go with the frac and binoviewers.
  2. Ah yes, seen them mentioned before now you remind me. I only use the binoviewers with the mak so it isn't a problem that I come across. Thanks Steve
  3. sorry got lost on this thread, what is a gpc
  4. glad you got to enjoy it so much, it has been a great comet for sure
  5. Next a picture through a cheshire or similar down the drawtube.
  6. Good report, your getting the same skies as I am. However I was viewing Neowise up til midnight then a couple of double after that. It wasn't Neowise at 9.30, earliest I have picked it up is around 10.30 but that was when it was a magnitude brighter than it is now.
  7. didn't try mine last night, too hooked up on other things. However while doing a star test with the achro 102 on Arcturus I really noticed the prism split colouration on it. It was strikingly strong and a lot more than I had expected with the achro, quite remarkable. Had I had the time, i would have given it a go but there is always next time now I have a target to test it on.
  8. I remember seeing it going on on the tv but i was only 6 and didn't realise the significance of it. And also happy birthday Gina. 🎂
  9. Mak always attract dew, I use a homemade dew shield although FLO sell them too. https://www.firstlightoptics.com/dew-prevention/astrozap-flexible-dew-shield.html
  10. would be even better without those trees behind it. 👍
  11. I use a 127mak on my AZ GTi, the mount easily manages with it and the scope is a decent all rounder. You can even use it for basic phone photography. Oh and get the extension tube.
  12. Just had a read of this, quite straightforward to align the ADC but tuning it is an altogether different thing. Thinking trial and error on tuning will be the order of the day.
  13. Best I could do with a ton of data. Sadly 90% of this was out of focus 🙄
  14. It's still a naked eye object John although fading noticeably from last week when I first made this post. Actually just had my 20x60 bins on it, however although it was brighter, low cloud had reduced the definition.
  15. ah yes good point well made Not on your own John, somewhat perplexed myself now.
  16. Fairly easy visible here tonight, keep looking out (during ad breaks of Blues Brothers) and it is just above neighbours house roof. Looking brilliant in the 10x30's I have managed to get several captures on both time lapse and single timer delay on my all in one. Used varying ISO settings so will see if I can bolt together a decent image from the conglomeration of data. Steve
  17. Alignment for what Shane. It is an AltAZ scope so the alignment of the ADC is still with the horizon unless you mean something else. 😁
  18. Why the bubble level guys, is it to assure the eyepiece setup is vertical ? I am happy with my understanding of the rest of the set up but not this!
  19. Well said shane, I tell swmbo what I am buying and happily she doesn't care two hoots as long as I never say to her we can't afford something she wants due to an astro related purchase. If I did that, questions may be asked. She is actually more concerned with the space kit takes up in our living room. So I have told her my new truss dob (soon to arrive) will be packed down small enough to store in the garage so I can sell the the 10" pushto that sits in the living room. She is happy as larry over this, and so am I 😘😅
  20. Just been having a look at the sybony eyepiece range and I think your favoured 18mm is a modified erfle design which should work well at F15 and if you like it, keep it. However I agree with John above saying get the zoom and keep the 6mm for those odd nights when seeing allows for exceptional magnification. If you don't get on with an eyepiece, I always say don't persist and get rid. Keep the 26 and lose the 32mm. I think that if you buy the zoom you may stop using some of the others almost entirely and then you can decide from there what to do.
  21. Quick check on a spreadsheet shows a cheapish 32mm erfle in my 10" dob gives x38, 1.9 tfov and only a 6.8 exit pupil. Use of this vixen gives x12, 0.9 tfov and 21mm of washed out exit pupil to play with. Even with a F10 100mm frac the results are equally woeful. If the OTA is F15 then it's a possible maybe, other than that I wouldn't waste my time. Sorry to be so negative, it's not like me but I really think vixen had a little something extra in the tea urn when they put this idea through from design.
  22. Please allow me to add to the clouds with a APM 20mm/70 degree illuminated spotting eyepiece. In my 80mm spotting scope gives a very useful x17 magnification and 4.2 degree fov. Great compliment to the telrad. Altair ADC, hoping to give it a whirl on either sat or sun night weather depending. Sky quality meter which came about as I realised a refund I had forgotten about and left me with a positive balance on credit card. Well had to be spent on something.
  23. I was mulling this over last night and thinking about multiplication of any lens placed in front of a binoviewer and that it is circa double the stated power of the lens arrangement being used. So am I correct that for a 1.6 barlow lens attached directly to the BV, this will give me x3.2. For a 2x barlow I get x4 and finally if I use my 2x tele extender we still have x2.
  24. I think get the 14mm Baz. That barlows to a very useful 7 a tad over x200, the 12.5 barlowed is going to x240 and will be used less. You will end up getting a 17.5 morpheus as well. In conjunction with a decent barlow that will give you a really good cover over mid and high range magnifications. PS, then get the 12.5 as well. You will end up selling all the bst's, lol
