Mac Image Processing options
mareman48 replied to Tony Acorn's topic in Getting Started With Imaging
Hi Tony, Nice setup 😃 Yes I know what you mean about hogging resources, thats why I have the partition. I have a 1TB SSD for the Mac side and a 512GB Flash for the windows side, "and never the twain shall meet" Just a matter of a reboot in the widows side and you can use all your CPU, GPU & Ram to your hearts content. I generally transfer my data to a USB stick and do my post processing from the computer after the session is done. Pat -
Mac Image Processing options
mareman48 replied to Tony Acorn's topic in Getting Started With Imaging
Forgot to mention I also run VMWare Fusion 13.5 on the Mac side. Which you can now run for free with a personal licence, installs easily, and runs within the Mac environment , like any other app. Pat -
Mac Image Processing options
mareman48 replied to Tony Acorn's topic in Getting Started With Imaging
Hi Tony, There are several options for Mac users, I have several I use for different reasons. On the Mac side, I run ASIStudio, which has a built in FIT viewer as well as a Stacker, I find the M1 version runs better than the intel version. I also have PixInsight which is a crazy bit of software and take some time getting to grips with, but the finished product is better than any other software I've tried. The only caveat with PixInsight that it can takes up to 10 hours ( or less) depending on what you are processing , your processor speed and so on. I have my 27" intel iMac partition and run windows 10 on that, I have this option as I run windows based games from that partition (4.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7- Radeon Pro 580 8 GB- 64 GB 2400 MHz DDR4) On the Windows partition I run Deep Sky Stacker, which I find is the fastest of all the other options. On the M3 iMac I also run Asistudio, and that processes very quickly. You can find an extensive list of Mac software Here Hope that helps a bit. Pat -

Got my first real clear night last night, but wasn't feeling great, so only got a couple of hours in, typical..... You have Steeple Leaze Farm close by, supposed to be a lovely spot 🤔

Hi @All I don't know about you, but this Winter and Spring has been the worst weather I've had for Astronomy in years. Anyone getting any clear nights any other part of Dorset? This is typical in my neck of the woods -->

Interesting, wonder what the price range will be on the Asiair 2600 duo air🤔

Computer for processing
mareman48 replied to DaveG64's topic in Imaging - Image Processing, Help and Techniques
Computer: Late 2017 27" iMac - 4.2GHz i7 Quad Core - 64GB DDR4 - Radeon Pro 580 8GB Early 2024 -24" iMac M3 - 16GB Ram- 500GB Flash, ASIStudio, Software: PixInsight, Siril, Photoshop, Topaz Labs, ASIStudio, QuickFits, I find large files are Graphic and Processor heavy, especially using PixInsight and ASIStudio, I have other Macs, but I tend to use this 2 for my Post Processing. -
I like it 🤗 What is your setup?

Actually, I am using a 500gb memory stick, I will remove my Light files and format it I will try shooting the dark library on the internal storage and see if I get the same results, that should eliminate the USB as the culprit. Thanks -

I’ve tried several different devices, all are pretty new and quite fast, I’ve even tied android devices. With the same result, My next step will be the software, I will try different versions, I am leaning more to this as the issue as I’ve just started getting lots of issues when I deleted my old dark library and started a new one. (see attached pic) Also horizontal lines across the bias frames, some frames coming out white, some with lines and very few decent ones, same with the darks, set of 100 darks, 1-20 fine, then 21-70 blank, then 72 ok, then the rest white. Not sure if this is related ,or if my 3 month old camera is on the blink, will be spending the today trouble shooting. Thanks for your suggestions.
