Why not use a EQ Pier extension
-
The encoder versions had a lot of software problems which I believe is sorted but the brand is relatively new compared to Synta there good and bad in all things but you mostly hear when there is a problem but not to much when their doing there job I have the CEM 60 and it’s perfect also had several AZ pro all worked well for me I know some of them were problematic but google Sky-Watcher AZEQ6 I owned two both terrible backlash and build very fragile
-
-
The adapter is made by ioptron for the tri pier so it can use a Eq6 or eq5 Mount as the CEM are mounted differently ie not using a centre bolt and uses pre drilled holes in the pier top if your uni28 is an ioptron fit then it’s possible
-
There are many Ioptron happy people also out there me being one the quality is a cut above Skywatcher brand I’ve owned quite a few skywatcher mounts and they have not all been good the ioptron pay load is better and seems more stable
-
Well I’ve been looking for a quality AZ Mount for a while with a decent pay load so after some Discussion with Dave & Derek at Rowan what great Guys they are about the mount capability weight wise as I want to use it with all my scopes except my Dob lol 😂 but including the Takahashi 150 TOA Dave and Derek assured me it was in the limits of the mount so I purchased the AZ100 with DSC not wanting to add to much extra gear to my set ups I sourced an adapter for my IOPTRON Tri pier mount which is very stable this was sourced from telescope express in Germany 🇩🇪 and was here in 3 days next I didn’t want to add to my counterweight collection so Dave & Derek offered to make up an adapter sleeve to fit my weights now this is quality service so the mount arrived today and what a piece of engineering far superior to anything I’ve had or seen even my AOY Master and that was great so I’ve got it all set for a quick tour tonight I must say first impression it moves superb with the Tak on board Derek kindly worked out what weight I needed and where to position it for me so here we go

There are lots of options to take it’s really down to how much needs adding and how much you want to spend I know many who use the Moonlite on the HD for imaging as I do for the Badder and feather touch the guy I got my C14 from imaged with it using a Pegasus for remote focuser no choice is wrong it’s what suits you best -

Also things to remember with the Moonlite you get the short knobs so the focuser doesn’t foul on them when turning etc that’s why it’s a bit more expensive -

You would need to use the info John gave link to and work what you need and you need to work out your distance etc you don’t get a lot of focus travel using the SCT version Focusers as really they are for fine tuning you use the normal focuser for rough focus and fine tune with the SCT at back -

Top man. You got any experience with the Baader by any chance mate? The Baader is excellent and so is the motor focus you would need few adapters but if you want straight out of the box it’s Moonlite is the way as your flatter screws into the focuser it’s self also it looks cool on an Edge here is one I had on a C14 Edge -

That’s why I’d go for the Moonlite -

For imaging I’d go for either the Moonlite or the Baader the revaluation is ok for visual I’ve owned all three -

Unless it was on an offer you get loads of extras with it above the standard one it’s a quality focuser still cheaper than a feather touch the next best is the Baader steel track there really nice
