Forcast: clear. Reality: Not a star in sight. It's not as if this forcast was made days in advance - that was what it was suggesting only minutes ago. People would lose their jobs in other industries.

  3. another dissapointing night when its forcast clear.astronomy is turning me into a right grump, may be time for a lay off plus my 3 month old moonlite focuser is becoming a bit sloppy so to say im in a bad move is an understatement!

Yeah, sadly I think I would agree with it the way it is these years. I can't believe it will be permanent though but I would not be surprised if it's poor for a few more years.

i sat and contemplated flogging the scope and just keeping a pair of bin's for opportune moments ! yes it is getting to me that much too !!

      crashtestdummy

im only motivated by not missing any of the messiers before they pass otherwise i wouldnt be too fussed with viewing at the moment :(

  4. promising forcast tomorrow night so despite the moon being just where i dont want it(virgo/leo) im going to bag all the cluster round cassiopeia/perseus/andromeda etc

Hmm, forgive my negative atitude but those forecasts lie!!!! ;)

  5. another week of cloudy nights to look forward too.why is it only clear when the moon is in the way?

    1. crashtestdummy

      crashtestdummy

on the plus side the moon is high and bright so all deep sky is pretty much buggered anyway

  6. massive thanks to MikeP for the s@n scans-shows what great forum this is.thanks to others too who offered

  7. have had a few tries for all the cassiopeia clusters but the first night ended up with patchy clouds with a minute window eaither side of cloud then the next time a full moon with clouds.have got half a dozen of them but my herschel guide shows about 25 clusters arround the "w" so may wait while she is higher in the sky later in the yer and try and get a few more
  8. primary cleaned, dried and refitted.always annoys me seeing the shoddy job Orion Optics did.when i buy my next mirror which will be an 18-20" i will email them the invoice and show them what they missed out on as i would have used them if they had done a good job!

  9. forcast clear all over yorkshire and guess what-not a star in the sky visible!!

Same down here in Cornwall. 3 different web sites reporting clear skies all night. After 90 mins sitting it out waiting for the clouds to clear I've given up. There's always tomorrow...

i managed a few herschel clusters in cassiopeia but i was after nailing them all and moving onto another area.left the scope outside hoping the clouds will lift again

    3. scarp15

      scarp15

I sensed that the met forcast was not going to be so accurate and was rather tight anyhow in terms of observing time, for at least driving out anywhere. As I had a (good) contingency plan, that is meeting with friends in the pub I went with that - right call.

      Robstargazer15

      You aint the only one.

Millions hate the moon and wind

      Clouds suck also.

      Qualia

Ay, the wind is a pain, but I think the Moon is so beautiful. I can get lost in her for hours.

    3. crashtestdummy

      crashtestdummy

the moon to me is just there to wash out the sky so i cant find any galaxies plus with my 12" scope it pretty much blinds me if i catch it by accident

  16. should be clear tomorrow night so best make the most of it!!dark skies here we come

  17. 1st clear night in about 2 weeks and the moon is in the way grrrr

  18. looks like it may stay clear so out in the north york moors at minus 8 to bag m79 and m93 hopefully

      crashtestdummy

well, very good night but i need to learn to read star maps better.managed m79 and m93 straight away then visual of the rosetta nebula.then moved and managed m63/94/106/102 and then m65/m66/m105/m96 and ngc3384 but stupidly missed m95 because i wasnt sure on 105 and 96 until i got home and checked turn left at orion.still a stellar night though!!!

    4. crashtestdummy

      crashtestdummy

m79 btw is really faint and tightly packed,it almost looks like a fuzzy star.i couldnt really tease any detail out of it but didnt really try and magnification,i bagged it and moved on

  19. everytime i look at an astropanel forcast it says it will be fine in a few days then when it gets to that day its cloudy but will be clear in another few days, and so on!!!do the people who update it actually look at any weather data?

    1. nephilim

      nephilim

Absoloutly not, its all lies, lies & more lies...........They cant seem to forecast the next 12hrs correctly, how on earth they think they can forcast the next 7days is utterly beyond me!!! :D

    2. crashtestdummy

      crashtestdummy

im inclined to agree with you on every single level!!

  20. so annoyed with the weathee and proper glad i didnt have to pay for astro panel!!!

  21. i see the weather forcast has changed again, looks like the only time its not cloudy is between 3am and 6am when i get up at 7am for work!big grrrr
