  1. Take aim, fire! wonderful collection you still have there. I'm a bit surprised that the Ikharus is the workhorse scope when you have the equinox and others. I remember looking at the Starwave equivalent last year, researched them and heard the optics were somewhere between Achromatic and Semi Apo? Lovely fit and finish on the other hand.
  2. I might be joining you in the 60 degree zone, I've only guessed 75 by eye so it's subject to possible change.
  3. Very nice big brother to mine Lot's more room on the 6/8SE version by the looks of it, and the Moonlite sets the whole thing off a treat I've set an Alt limit of 75 degrees on the handset so it hopefully won't suggest objects above this, I don't want to crash into the mount!
  4. Lovely scope Mike, and quite a mount by the looks of it too!
  5. Definitely Yummy, I remember salivating over these on the Skylight web site last year
  6. How about an ironic name like 'Tiny'
  7. Your ED80 looks really smart on the AZ4 Jules, and your going to really like the views for it's aperture
  8. Hi and welcome back to SGL from a different Chris in Ipswich
  9. Sounds utterly utterly amazing, can't wait to hear more!
  10. I've just seen his welding on the mirror cell and alt bearings which look perfect! Very impressed, I was rubbish at welding when I trained in engineering which is why they stuck me on the lathes
  11. I've just read a few of the above comments and flicked back and seen a few pics of the beast which have sent goose bumps down my spine! It might take a a while but I'm going back to page 1 and reading the whole shabang My hat off to you faulksy, you clearly have some mad DIY skills
  12. Congratulations on your dream scope Zhao! It's a great choice for a dream scope and looks absolutely beautiful I must say! Have you had the chance to look through it yet?
  13. That's a great capture, I was expecting more false colour, I take it you processed it out.?
  14. The APM 130 and AVX combo looks really nice, John I've owned an AVX and really liked mine. try a two star allignment John, this should be enough to get objects in the eyepiece and is really quick and easy to do
  15. That's quite some kit you have Ken! 2 x C11 Edge's?? and a Tak baby Q I'm guessing? I shouldn't say this on the frac thread but gawd do I miss my C8 Edge.
  16. Thought you were going to say 8" not 7", what a size difference indeed!
  17. Thanks deejay, that's a lot of work but it really shows in the end result! I think you have definitely added value if anything Have you checked out the Moonraker and Skylight telescopes websites, I think you'd approve.
  18. Looks really great! How did you remove the scratched paint work if you don't mind me asking?
  19. Thanks Roy I think Derek is kindly going to sort me out with an hybrid diagonal. I've checked and tring astro are out of stock on those adaptors, but I'll keep an eye out for when they get more in stock as it does look a better long term solution Good idea to get Richard to fettle the tube length, I bet it would reach focus with BV's. Dave had a shortened 76mm f/16 for BV's, so he would probably have a good idea about how much shorter it would need to be to work without the glass path corrector.
  20. Thanks Stu, yes Astroboot was my first stop as I always normally see them there, also surprised ebay didn't have them. Cheers, I'll try 365 next. If no joy I'll put a shout out in the ads
  21. Thanks guys, and will do Dave I just need to get a .965 to 1.25"diagonal so I can use my Plossls. Anyone know where I can buy one from? They are all 45 degree on ebay.
  22. New addition thanks to a very long Ebay hunt! I've had my eye out for one of these for about 2 years since turning down one of Dave's @F15Rules examples, then regretting it lol. Circle K Japan 76.2mm f/16 classic refractor. This one is branded Panorama, and came in the wooden box with all the trimmings. Had it out tonight, and really found it easy to use as the mount converts nicelyinto AZ with long controls. Had lovely sharp views of the Moon, plus detected M57 despite Moon (see pic of scope pointing straight up). Star test looked good, maybe slightly less sharp on intra focus rings perhaps. I still got a lovely wide clean split on Mizar, beautiful little orbs like stars showing, I'm very happy to have finally bagged one, it just needs a little TLC
  23. Heads up! Martin aka Grumpy Martian has an ES 127mm triplet with case for sale in great condition for 875 ono. If you're after a bigger Apo it might be worth investigating? :)

Half tempted myself, but I'm currently saving for one of the wifi scopes controlled via an android tablet like the Celestron Evolution 6, or the new Celestron Fi scopes that are about to launch.

      Hi Chris!

Just sent you a loooong email!

Thanks for the heads up.. I'm a bit suspicious of "cheap" triplets to be honest, would rather have one of the older F9 ed doublets which were apparently superb..

I've also noted that Martin gets through scopes like I get through eyepieces, which worries me a bit...

But thanks for the heads up!

      cheers

      Dave
