I already had the FPL51 version of this (Altair Ascent). Love it! But the little CA that was there, annoyed me when I was imaging

Nice and sharp! Funny enough, I just got the same scope delivered an hour ago! 😄

Absolutely stunning Dave! As always when something cool happens, I was clouded out!

Great image. I tried with my telescope, but it was a no go. I should have stuck with the Samyang like you! -
That is actually pretty good! Nice prom

Thanks. I used DeepSkyStacker. The rest was done in Photoshop -

I am bortle 4 according to the map -
Now, I am not a great DSO imager by a long shot, but here is a quick comparison for you. Both were taken with a Samyang 135mm lens and the same 3 min subs. 1st image was taken with a QHY183C Cooled cam through RGB filters, 2nd one was taken with a ZWO ASI585MC uncooled cam. The fov is much smaller, but the cheap cam does well. But I only spent 135 minutes on the RGB image (3x45min) VS 5 hours(!) on the color image 🤪 And this is a broadband target. Even with the great dual-band on the marked these days, I think I would struggle when it comes to the asi585 camera. I will probably do a test at one point though, so I might be wrong! 🙃

What is a C9.25 with stain on mirror worth?

I'll see if I can't do a quick image test or two, just to make sure everything is working properly. -
What is a C9.25 with stain on mirror worth?

He had no idea. I just checked the OO site: "Some mirrors we receive have been kept is wet conditions or conditions where moisture occasionally condenses on the optical surface and stays for hours, sometime days. This is one of the biggest problems which cause degradation of the reflecting surface. The moisture gradually seeks out microscopic pin holes in the top protective layer of a mirror’s coatings and begins, ever so slowly, to attack the aluminium underneath this layer. Over the years, this action can also attack the glass but to a far lesser extent. However, glass needs very little attack to loose a little of it’s polished finish. Unfortunately, there are one or two cases a year when there is very little sign of any attack on the mirror’s surface and we consider that it will coat to a virtually perfect reflecting mirror. The problem is that when coated, we come across areas which are slightly duller which, were impossible to detect in it’s original condition or when the old coating was stripped off. Let me stress, this is a rare occurrence but, it does happen, even after we have given the mirror the most stringent visual tests prior to coating. The dulling of the surface in these rare instances is usually very limited and detracts only from the mirror’s appearance, it has little or no effect on the mirror’s overall performance. The only way to remove this attack on the mirror’s surface if it is very noticeable and which may detract from it’s performance, is to re-polish and re-figure the mirror. This is usually very expensive and in some instances not possible." So maybe this is the case. It is a dull stain -

Right, some new info. I asked him if he was willing to recoat it, and he said it had already been done by Orion Optics (yes, Hilux coatings)! I guess that explains why the mirror looks so smooth then. It also means the stain must have etched into the glass? He is not looking for money in that sense, he just wants a fair price for it. Pretty much sold as is. I would have taken it, but I live on the windiest street on the planet. Something this big would be a no go for me, unless I build an observatory! 🤣 -
FLO sells them as well. I have had 3 other 3D sets for the 135, and they all failed in some way. The Astrodymium system just works, and is rock solid! https://www.firstlightoptics.com/adapters/astrodymium-ring-system-with-zwo-eaf-asiair-mount-for-samyang-rokinon-135mm-f2-lens.html

C9.25 rotating secondary mirror
Chris-h replied to Chris-h's topic in Discussions - Scopes / Whole setups
Wow, props to celestron! "Get a pair of plastic grippers and unscrew it. Sometimes they are just on really tight". And then they told me how to correctly reassemble the OTA again (I already knew this). I thought they would be all "NOPE! You have taken the scope apart, so now we can't help you!". Proper service like 👍 -
Thank you both 👍

Hi all, I just got a good deal on a C9.25, because it was dirty. When I was taking it apart, I noticed that the secondary mirror moving around in the corrector. Obviously this has to be fixed, or collimation will be lost as the scope moves around the sky. So I tried to tighten the retaining ring. NOPE! It doesn't move! So I tried loosing it. Same problem. The ring is on TIGHT! Does anyone have any tips on how to loosen it? Heat maybe? If I can't tighten it, I'll just have to glue it to the corrector. Thanks How do you make the video smaller?!
