D=114mm F=1200mm (No17145) It appears to be a well made bit of kit but I can't find anything about it. Can anyone point me in the right direction. Many thanks dickb

Hi, Thought i'd post something useful being first blog. Here is my solution to streetlights that may affect viewing: Blackout blind mark 1 Background is live next to a streetlight and this affects viewing. Built a cheap light blackout screen out of commonly available materials which has cut stray light by about 95%. Have researched commercially available option but came to expensive, hence designed my own. Roughly 4m tall by 3m wide. Advantages are: - significantly darkens garden for observing

Skywatcher Hand set Updates

Not sure if Im doing this right as this is my first ever post (allowing cat leaves me alone) All I wish to know has anyone succsesfully updated a Alt/Az hand set that is used on the single arm Skywatcher Alt/Az mounts to the Syntrek hand control that is used on the EQ/HEQ/PRO mounts, the reason Ive asked is that I have a 150mm Skywatcher goto but Im considering an upgrade to the HEQ5PRO at £580 is a lot less than the nearly £700 with the Syntrek HC many thanks all Robertt

Telescope Transporting

Hi All This is a day of firsts for me. My first blog about my first telescope. My wonderful girlfriend bought me a Skywatcher Classic 80 Refractor for my birthday. I have decided to join the kind people on Stargazer Lounge to boost my knowledge to get the most out of my new toy. So... to the reason for my blog apart from saying hello. I need to find the safest way of transporting my telescope because where I live is not the best place due to lots of pesky light pollution. What I would like is a

Observation Report 15th November 2010

Observation Report 15th November 2010 After nearly 2 weeks of poor skies and incompatible shift pattern I decided that a early morning start was required and the sky was clearing nicely. I set off to my dark sky site (Birkrigg Common) at 01:45 and arrived at 02:17, Birkrigg is a Moore on a fell side and trying to get to my usual place was proving very difficult, the grass was very wet and deep ruts in the mud. I tried for 10 minutes to reach my usual place but all I was doing was digging the c

A few beefs about syn scan on my skywatcher 130p newt

Well after weeks of studying scopes and prices, i narrowed it down to four scopes 1, celestron nexstar 90slt mak 2. dob skywatcher 8inch 3. skywatcher syn scan 130p newt. 4. skywatcher skymax 102 mak. I bought the choice 3. but...........a few beefs about the syn scan handset, there`s no on off switch on the main mount, you have to pull the power socket out, and when you power back on the time and date has to be put in again, also it does not ask you for your country your in, only time zone ,

Observation Report for 25/10/10 Iphone Luna Report & Pictures

Observation Report for 25/10/10 Finished work at 23:20 and drove home and got my thermal clothes and collected all the gear and packed the car. Arrived at my observing site at 00:30, and quick scan of the sky pretty much same as last night, Orion rising in the East, Jupiter sat nicely in the South West. The Moon of course is dominating the night sky at present, very bright in dead, washing out almost everything in the sky, and making my dark sky site very light indeed. 00:40 – 01:10 Fully set

24/10/2010 Birkrigg Common – Cumbria 01:30 – 03:30

24/10/2010 Birkrigg Common – Cumbria 01:30 – 03:30 Spent Saturday night at work but I was itching to get out with the scope, it’s been well over a week since the last session. Since then I have strained some muscles in my back, changing a light bulb of all things? Still I’ve put up with it for a week now so it was not going to stop me getting out, what made it worse though, is I slept heavy and had a stiff neck as well, think I’m falling apart? I finished work at 00:20 and drove home to get cha
