Night Mode for Computer screens

I've been having a rummage around and I can't find the thread! (I have seen one somewhere!)

SO:

Is there a program or way of setting up your computer screen that gives you a decent "night mode" (red) screen. I am aware that most individual programs have a night mode setting but is there an "overall" one so you can set it once and it will work for everything?

i've never found one so in the end created a win7 theme (basically changed system colours) which suits me

Alternatively you can tape some red acetate over the screen

There WAS a program included on a Sky At Night cover disc a couple of yrs ago that you install onto your computer and it makes the whole screen red..........no matter what you did or what you used.

Red acetate will work perfectly and costs pennies.

I've found that a dodgy vga cable has the same effect. If I wiggle mine I can get just blue, just green or just red, and sometimes nothing at all.

I use red cellophane in an A4 clear plastic cover, very simples

I may be wrong but i THINK that was the free software on the sky at night disc.

I made a card frame with some red cellophane that fits over the screen. I found that even in Stellarium in the "night vision" mode, the backlight on my laptop screen was still too bright even at minimum brightness and interfered with my vision, so making a separate "filter" that went over the top was a far better solution.
