Don't know yet, Nick. I found I needed to clean my Barlow for this game and have yet to try it again. Is 2x reasonable for solar imaging, I don't know?

Under the terrible seeing conditions of the M25 and aircraft vapour I'm usually limited to about f25 with the SM60. On a really good day I can get to f35. Using TV Powermates.

With the 80mm PST I get the 5X AE powermate tack sharp and the 4X Televue one likewise with the Skynyx 2-0 and 2-1, but this time of year F25 is about as high as I would like to go

And by tack sharp, I mean tack sharp..

With the DMK41 (4.65 micron pixel pitch) f/25 is about as much as is needed to capture all the information resolved by a perfect objective, perfectly focused in perfect seeing. I usually work at around f/20, even that's hard in winter.

Indeed Brian, I usually stop solar imaging around first week in Nov until March time unless there is something spectacular, as the mush is just too inhibiting for the close up work

I have next to no solar viewing experience but it strikes me so far that first thing in the morning is great here. That is just after the best planetary and lunar seeing so seems logical.

I hadn't thought about extending the focal length but sure, why not.
