Star Islands in a sea of stars

Grabbed this image in the last hour before dawn on Sunday morning at the SSP. It was taken with my new Canon 550D and 70-200mm L series F4 lens mounted on my Astrotrac.

The lens was set to 70mm the exposure was 18 x 3mins at ISO400.

The Double Cluster is central to the image with the Heart and Soul Nebulae showing to the left of it

I also had the bonus of a meteor on one of the subs

I'm really pleased with the performance of the camera and lens

I forgot to mention no calibraton was carried out and only PS Despeckle was used. The noise seems to be significantly less than the 400D. The only problem was the file size stacking took ages despite having a intel quadcore machine
