Starlight Express Off Axis Guider

The new Starlight Xpress Off Axis Guider is incoming! Our first delivery is expected next Thu-Fri

This remarkably slim OAG screws directly to the Starlight Xpress USB Filter Wheel adding only 13mm to the back focal distance. The 10x8mm prism fully illuminates a Lodestar or SXV Exview autoguider CCD and the pick-off axis may be adjusted to optimise the guide image quality.

Initially this new product will be in short supply but we will make one available to SGL for a review at the earliest opportunity

A stand-alone version will also be available, though it will arrive later.

So that works with any filter wheel?

As it stands, it is specific to the SX filter wheel (it uses three bolts that fit into the front of the SX wheel).

Its designed so that the lodestar/guidehead camera is at the same distance as the SX CCDs (with a little bit of play), so they are both focused with too much twiddling.

The standalone version mentioned will have specific adapters that add extra distance to make up for the lack of the filter wheel, so you can still attach the SX camera to the back and it will still be in focus for both cameras.

Using this OAG on any other system may not work.
