jonnyboy
a 10" meadelx tube or a William Optics Megrez 80 II SD i already have a eq6 and ed 100 and i want to add to it.cheers guys
geppetto
If I had a nice ed100 and wanted a second scope I would go for some more aperture.A 10" on the eq6 would do nicely 8)
GazOC
As Geppetto says from a ED100 you really want to got up in aperture not down. A 8"-10" Newt or SCT would make a good combination.
MartinB
:D :D Have you had a look at the Takahashi Mewlons Jonny. A nice introduction to catadioptric scopes. Alternatively Meade offer a range of budget Richey Cretiens if you are interested in imaging.
GordonCopestake
look at the celestron sct's too, they come up second hand quite often. A nice 9.25 would do you well
MartinB
Or if it's aperture you are after there is always the Parks Optical range of reflectors. The nitelight range are nice little instruments to get you started.
jonnyboy
yeh thanks everyone as i do not know much i was thinking of the long term while i can still afford it and it looks like the aperture it is.thanks again Jon
daz
This months Practical Astronomer has a review of the Mewlon - an interesting read on this type of optical config....

jonnyboy
cheers. I No what you mean martinb about the bug, just won that starlight svx h9 off ebay could not resist. do i need focal reducers for the ed100 and meade 10" if so which one should i get i already have 0.5. i will not get the LRGB filter wheel yet i shall concentrate on the monochrome shots. hopefully i will get some kind of result. MartinB
What 0.5 reducer have you got Jon. If it is the Atik it will vignette with the SXV. You may be able to get away with the Celestron 0.63 (but that is for the SCT only) but the best option is the Astro Physics 0.67. This is currently $148 which is cheaper than the celestron (and better). It can be used with either scope and greater compression can be achieved using Baader T2 adaptors also available from the AP site. :shock:You are going at a rate of knots Jon and could get yourself tangled up on the learning curve. Good move to stick with mono for now I think. I am currently waiting delivery of an identical camera to use with an NS8 and ED80. My brain is spinning with the things I need to sort out:Piggy back set upGuidingDrift alignmentPeriodic error correctionWeight calibrationFlats and bias framesSoftware for control of scope and camera (apparently the SXV stuff is pretty clumsy) - looking like Maxim but Astro Art an optionGetting to grips with the softwareImproving focussing using software toolsImproving processing skillsGood luck. You did well picking up that SXV on ebay. Looking forward to seeing your results!!
jonnyboy
by the sounds of it its going to be months to get a result oh well i will jump in at the deep end. lol. if any one lives local to stockport i will appreciate any help to get started. GordonCopestake
The best way to learn is to just take some images and see where you go from there. You'de be suprised at how good your first few images will be
jonnyboy
it is an atik Martin. Kaptain Klevtsov
:pAlternatively Meade offer a range of budget Richey Cretiens if you are interested in imaging. How budget do they get? I can only find the LX200R and they're not giving them away. The RCX400 is even more money.Captain Chaos
GazOC
Meade are having "issues" with the bigger LX200Rs, I'd give them a miss for now.
