M42 from Tilshead "SPOG"

I havn't posted an image for a long time so i thought i would have another crack at it

This image was only 4 mins exposure on my D60 at ISO 800, with no darks or flats, only brightness changed, and unguided

Very, very nice Dave, lovely round stars and beautifully framed. You've really got the hang of polar aligning that cannon of yours and to think you don't even auto-guide. How did you get on with the Hotech and did it show any difference to your laser?

PS. could do with it back asap as we have been invited to take Steph's dob to a friends tomorrow night as they have much darker skies, not that the weather looks promising but you never know.

That would be fantastic Dave. I need to check my polar scope, can't understand why I can't image for longer than 2 mins without the stars elongating, I'm beginning to think the reticule must be out...

hmm could be, when i come round i'll av a look at it for ya and if it is clear i will align it aswell

I can take up to about 5:30s without trailing, you should be able to to 2 no problem.

That's a nice photo. I like the colours, lovely blues, greens and purples. The stars in the background are nice and sharp as well. Think you should put a few more images up!

Thanks for all the fantastic coments i am starting over again as i lost all my data, so i think i will attack the M42 and get tonnes of subs. Deneb, yeah I only take unguided shots, mostly because i cant afford to guide lol, but also i think that you get a real sense of achievement when you get the polar alignment spot on i think the next thing i will do is get rid of the filter on my camera, so i can pick up the all important Hydrogen Alpha wavelengths!
