I listened to this programme and it got me thinking. With the appalling British climate, how on earth did the great British astronomers and scientists of the Georgian and Victorian periods manage to make such significant advances in astronomy?

Imagine how much more they might have achieved if we had decent weather!

Maybe they did have regular good weather. I've no idea what they recorded in logs. I sort of hope that the recent increases in moisture in the atmosphere are more recent.

Just downloaded for the walk to work. :)

Had a visit to the 'Herschel Museum' in Bath a few years ago... My wife thought it 'pricey' for a small museum.

I really enjoyed it; however I did feel that it would be more interesting for someone with some prior knowledge of the family and their contribution to science than for someone coming in 'cold'.
