Orion, Dusty widefield... Not Springfield

Recommended Posts

Whilst I had my big rig pointing at the zenith on my back patio last week I took my little Omegon LX3 into the south facing front garden and shot this.  Taken with my modified Canon 6D and the Samyang 135mm Cine lens 1 stop'ish down.  34 x 45 second exposures with calibration frames.  Stacked in DSS and processed in Siril, GIMP and Topaz.

Superb, Jody. Loads of detail, there.  Can’t wait to get a shot at this with the very same setup (almost) sometime soon.

Hi all.  Thanks for the positive feedback.  I was surprised by the amount of I could pull from the image given the short integration time.  A big thumbs up for the 6D here.  I'm now thinking that without too much effort and given clear moonless skies I could make a nice mosaic of the Orion constellation...

That is quite outstanding ! Just a few years ago such quality and detail could only be expected from many thousands of pounds worth of gear and also many hours. Even then it wasn't easy.

Another image that deserves to be in the Orion challenge !

Dave.

Thanks Dave.  I might see if I can add another panel or two before I go for that one.
