recceranger
I’m about to register my checked pictures but keep getting this warning message about JPEG files? Is this normal?
Freddie
Yes because as it says, the files you are using are a compressed format.
almcl
Yes, if at all possible you should avoid using Jpegs for the reason stated in the warning. Raw files, or if your camera's raw format isn't supported, tiffs will work but the algorithms don't do so well with the lossy compression of jpeg. vlaiv
Use RAW files instead of jpegs. Jpeg file format uses compression and special type of it - lossy compression. This sort of compression looses data from the image. This is not important for regular photography where you won't notice slight difference in a pixel but is important for astrophotography where this pixel can contain star or noise or something else that is important (noise is also important - if we remove it artificially stacking wont do it's job properly). Is this normal? Yes, as has been said, big mistake, don't try and stack JPEG files, you should use the RAW files from the camera.... 👍
happy-kat
But if all you took that night was JPEGs then nothing to loose in stacking them.
recceranger
Thanks folks. What a school boy error! I was messing about with my DSLR a few days ago and left it on JPEG😅 lesson learned, attention to detail. They still stacked no problem thought👍🏻🍺
