Recommended Posts

Initial attempt at star trails timelapse shot on 15th July 2018 starting at 0015 hrs BST.

Canon 550D with 18-35mm lens @ 18mm

240 x 30s ISO 800 @ f3.5 + 20 x 30s darks, processed with StarStaX

I need to find a much more interesting foreground than my back garden bushes next time 😀

Very artistic :) I like it.

It looks to be nicely processed and as for the foreground, maybe stay where you are and Very Gently light up what looks to be a scope. It seems to be pointing at Polaris and I think it might look good.

That's nice!

Would be interested in the workflow.... :)

With Kelling not too far away, and now having a wide-enough lens, this is something I want to try!!

Thanks Daz. It was processed in StarStax. Under blending preferences there's an option to save each cumulative image up to the final star trail, then import all of these "stills" into a video editing package (I'm on Mac so I used iMovie). In the same blending preferences window there is also an option to process images in reverse order, so I did this as well so that I had stars growing from single point up to the full star trail then added the reverse order to the video edit. Once happy with the video just save and export as an animated gif.
