Thanks Stu,

I've been meaning to make a note of this...  Can't wait to see if I can manage a transit with my ST80....

Mark

That should be a good challenge Mark. I've seen both GRS and shadow transits in a 60mm apo doublet before, but planetary observing is not a strong point for the ST80 so I look forward to hearing how you get on. Should be possible I reckon.

Thanks for sharing, I think the double Moon and shadow transit might be a tough challenge 🙂

I tried for the GRS transit last night, but it was about the worst view of Jupiter I've had for a long time. It was showing pretty much as a blank disk? Barely a band to be seen, let alone GRS. Think clouds just wouldn't clear, until after i pack up of course!

Stu suggested that I repeat here my initial post from the thread I started today in the Observing-Planetary forum. So here it is:

During the night of 2019 JUN 11-12 the Galilean satellites #1 Io and #3 Ganymede and their shadows will appear to be simultaneously transiting Jupiter. In fact, Io will be partially occulting its shadow.

Photos and descriptions of the event would be welcome additions to this thread.
