...spend most of the evening capturing and processing a 25 pane lunar mosaic...only to find you didn't quite cover it as diligently and accurately as you thought you did!

Oh well, I'm gonna post it anyway after all that...

Thanks Ant, it's just a bog-standard ToUcam 840

I've had to compress the image 50% in order to post it full-size.

Absolutely, but it happens very frequently. Mine, however, don't look as good in the bits that I get imaged as yours do. Great capture.

If didn't get the full image but at least I've got my electric focuser back on the ED80 and that has confirmed to me what a huge difference it makes in easily capturing images.

How much overlap do you guys leave between sections when your doing the mosaics?

Lunar imaging aint my thing but interested in knowing...

I try to overlap minimally but using a easily recogniseable feature as this makes stitching in iMerge easier, also makes it easier to 'visualise' where you are in the overall picture.

On this one I tried to work Up then down from the terminator to the limb. Basically, I set the gain on the brightest part of the image around the limb then let the terminator be defined by this.

I usually find that the middle sections are where the missing areas usually are so I normally do some extra captures across and around the middle just in case...didn't do it this time though

When ever I do terestrial panoramas or mosaics I alway overlap by at least 1/3rd frame but I guess with a very small FOV when imaging at high mag this would dramatically increase the number of frames.

I have suffered from this too

(my last mosaic had the south pole missing)

Perhaps some clever person should write a

moon mosaic bit of software .....who knows.
