Mount for William Optics Zenithstar 73 APO

Hi everyone!

I need some advice , i just ordered a beautiful WO ZS 73 APO telescope with finder , i going to use it for visual observation only.

What mount would be best for this telescope?

How exactly are you going to use the telescope?  Some  suggestions:

Looking at planets (or close double stars) implies you will want a driven equatorial, or a GoTo mount.  Star clusters: non-driven.

Finding faint and non-obvious objects implies a GoTo mount.

Grab'n  Go implies an alt-azimuth mount: AZ4, AZ-5 etc.

Garden use implies a solid tripod eg 1.75" steel tubular legs.

Portable use implies a lighter tripod with aluminum legs. 

Like tech: GoTo. Hate tech: Alt-azimuth.

If you can refine your requirement, somebody will suggest a suitable mount, I'm sure.

Is the Zs 73 heavy for an star adventurer? would be a nice, transportable set up!

Hi. May I ask how are you getting on with your Zenithstar 73mm for visual. 

I am interested as I used to enjoy wide field low power views with 70mm binoculars. The 73mm might satisfy this area of observing for me.

I also bought my William Optics Zenithstar 73 purely for visual.

I use it with a Skywatcher AZ-GTI goto mount set on a Skywatcher eq5 tripod.

You will need an adaptor to connect the mount to the tripod.

Works perfectly and is very sturdy

Or get this tripod. Same as the EQ5 one but with a 3/8 fitting.

Yes i forgot they made the same tripod with a different fitting.

I already had the tripod for my eq5 mount so just needed the adaptor

A eq2 could hold a 2.8 refractor if u want more a eq3_2 or cg4
