A few Wide field snaps with the Nikkor 2.8/180 ED

Finally had a go with my Nikkor 180mm f2.8 ED lens. It performed beyond my expectations. Super sharp wide open and great color. Picks up the dark and dusty stuff quite well indeed.

 

All of these are single 300 second images @ ISO 800  SOOTC with just basic Camera RAW processing. No darks, flats or biases used at all. Let me know what you think.

Hello and thank you for your kind words. This was the rig I used with the early 80's Nikkor 2.8/180 ED in rings attached to my unmodded 5Dmkiii in tandem alongside a 9x50 finder scope with a Meade DSI 1 mono CCD for PHD on a Synta made Orion AZ/EQ-G

The Nikon ED180mm F2.8 was reckoned to be one of their best lenses ever. I have one but rarely I use it - I found the Nikon ED80-200mm F2.8 Zoom to be equally good for astro and more versatile!!
