Battery pack for sky watcher 150pds

Recommended Posts

FLO do the Celestron Powertank as well - https://www.firstlightoptics.com/batteries-powerpacks.html

But otherwise, a good leisure battery will suffice. To work out how long one will last you in the field, divide the battery Ah rating by the total load of your setup. So, the 17Ah Celestron would give ~6hrs at 3amp total draw.

Leisure batteries can be up in 100+Ah but they're not a lightweight option. You'll also need a good charger for your chosen battery!

I use one of these on my 12v scope:

Battery

Not the greatest in appearance but they do the job. Have found they charge to about 11.8v in the time stated, then need about 2-3 hours more to get to 12.8v area. You also need to make your own connector to go from battery to scope - 2 connectors from Maplins and 4 inches of twin core. Just get the polarity correct.

They are not going to last all night and they are not going to power scope, guider, dew heater and boil a kettle, which more then a few seem to actually want. Mine is on a small goto and the use is sort of 2 maybe 3 hours of lightish use. I am not slewing all over the sky.

Will say mine seem happy with a voltage that can be a little below 12v whereas I gather that Skywatcher's seem to like 12 volt or a little more, so that could be a problem.

This looks nice! Are those 12v outlets "cigarette lighter" outlets?

Thanks for the suggestions

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knew of some good 12v batteries.

These look very good and long lasting but very expensive for a battery.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks, Seb

Got mine for£40, Halfords Dec last year.

I run the mount motor and a 12v/230v inverter to power the laptop with no problems.

Just remember to charge it after every use or every 2 months.

Did you get from Halfords or another place where they sell things cheaper.

Bit of a silly question

just to mention, if you buy lipo batteries, there will be no cigarette plugs. i made my custom cables at a shop...so there.

i hate lugging a lot of weight around. i save my back for tennis, it taxes it plenty.

Just to ask, how heavy is this? Just to know for portability.

Well its not light, but I carry 2 with me, one for my camera (atik infinity) and one for my dew controller, i just put them in the boot when going to a dark site and then set them up no problem, and I am an OAP by the way lol
