Lens tripod mount ring/collar

Recommended Posts

I haven't seen any universal ones as they days they are pretty lens specific... so it would be a case of finding something the right diameter or larger and padding appropriately with cork or felt...

Is it to try and get better balance on the SA as there may be other alternatives?

Converting the clamp to Arca-Swiss type and using a long plate on the camera for example...

Or this Manfrotto 293 solution might give you some ideas... although IMHO it's less flexible than going Arca-Swiss...

Hi

Yeah, that's why I was asking if anyone knew of one that fits... It's mounted on my heq5 at the moment but the lens is very heavy compared to the camera body so not ideal from a balance point of view.

The ones I've looked at don't seem to quote diameters, just lens fittings. I suppose I ought to be able to work out which one might fit if I can gather the necessary data... The Takumar is 64.4mm diameter so if anyone knows of a collar that is 64.5mm or slightly bigger that would be useful. I have some felt to pad out with but obviously the lens has to be held firm and with no flex.

What alternatives were you thinking of?

Thanks

Louise

Hmm.. I actually have a microfocusser fitted to the lens at the moment. Thinking about it, I suppose there wouldn't be room for both, lol  .  Currently, the camera body is screwed to a longish aluminium bar which in turn is screwed to a dovetail at right angles. The other end of the Al bar holds a guide scope i.e. in a 'H' shape. There is probably a better way to arrange things that will also be easier to balance. Will have to think a bit! :)

Thanks

can you utilise a set of guide scope rings?

Hi

Um... Possibly! Not sure really. As mentioned above, with the microfocusser in place, there's little room to fit anything else to the lens. There's not much room even without the microfocusser... I think it was maybe a bad idea to think in terms of mounting via the lens. Call it a 'senior idea' :)

i was thinking that using the jubilee clip around middle of lens?

first focusing on what you want before tightening it down and with a u shape clip like one in link

maybe attached under it so you can bolt it to a bar

or try 2 of these together

Hi

I'm not sure that will work, or be very practical, especially with the microfocusser attached. It doesn't matter now, I've abandoned the lens mount idea now. Thanks for the idea though.
