Advice for a first time refractor owner

Hi everyone,

So I have jumped on the big old bandwagon and ordered a WO Star 71 that should be winging its way to me soon.

This will be my first refractor so I'd like to get some feedback from refractor owners on any extras I might need and anything worth testing/checking on the scope once it arrives.

My list so far is:

Things to check once it arrives:

Visual inspection of scope

Test the focuser (smoothness and play)

Things to check on first light:

Take some shots with my DSLR to check the corners are ok

Additional items I might require:

I have ordered a Focus Mask

I have ordered an adaptor for my CCD to attach to

I have the bits to make a longer dew shield

What am I missing?

The only issue you could have is getting it to balance might need less counter weight on your mount and a longer dovetail for the scope.

Good point, I have a long dovetail that I use on the 200p so I'll use that if needed and then get a replacement.
